Tim Mahoney, a state representative from Fayette County, wants to be clear to his constituents: He is not the Florida congressman at the center of an ABC News report alleging he paid a former mistress to prevent a sexual harassment lawsuit.
The state representative even issued a press release Tuesday clarifying his identity, assuring people he is not U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.). The Mahoney from Florida on Monday called for a congressional ethics investigation into the ABC News report.
In a brief interview with PolitickerPA.com, Mahoney said "three or four" constituents called his office Tuesday morning inquiring about the news report.
The calls were "alarming," Mahoney said.
"Then I said, 'Uh oh,' and that's why I had to do a press release," he said.
The press release was brief: "Pennsylvania State Representative Tim Mahoney of Fayette County is not to be confused with U.S. Congressman Tim Mahoney of Florida who called for an ethics probe of himself earlier this week."
It provided a link to a story about the congressman Mahoney.
