Sestak says if you are a fan of the Villanova Women's Cross County team, make sure you vote for Williams

Below is a release from Congressman Joe Sestak that wins the award for the PolitickerPA.com press release of the year. And for those of you wondering, that is not a good thing. Sestak, trying to piggyback on the World Series Phillies parade released a press release taking full credit for breaking the streak and helping deliver the championship.

We have all heard over the last two weeks how Philadeplia had not had a professional championship since 1983. Well Sestek had to make his release work so he rewrote the jinx and gave made it Philadelphia had not won a championship since 1986. Still trying to figure that one out since 1985 was the year Villanova and Ed Pinckney won the NCAA championship. 1983 was when the drought started, when the 76ers won the last professional championship, not 1986 by even the most dimwitted measure.

The release also mentioned the AFL Soul championship. In what way are a college championship and an AFL championship "major" professional championships?

So what was the cause of this curse and how was Sestek responsible for breaking the jinx? Well he says Curt Weldon took office in 1986 so me must be the cause. Problem with that argument is Weldon was elected in 1986 so he would not have been sworn in until 1987. So somehow Weldon being sworn into office in 1987 caused a five year old streak to run into a 25 year streak. Or if you want to go by Sestak's redefinition he turned a 2 year curse into a 23 year curse. I have heard of Weldon being accused of a lot of things, but never did I know the streak was his fault. If anyone had figured this out earlier Weldon would have been gone well before Sestak came around. Can you imagine Eagles fans in 2004 if they were told they could win the Super Bowl if they only rejected Weldon? Weldon would have lost in a landslide to none of the above and even the Patriots and their sign stealing would not have been able to stop Donovan.

Another major flaw in Sestak's reasoning, if he is including Villanova, then what about the Villanova Women who won the 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1998 NCAA Cross Country championship?

Sestak then makes the leap that his current opponent Craig Williams has the same initials as Curt Weldon, so unless you want another streak then vote Sestak. After I got done laughing at this leap it hit me, he must think if you a fan of Villanova's Women Cross Country team you better get out there, hit streets, get everyone at school to the polls and support C.W.

Dear Friend,

Today at noon, our hometown Philadelphia Phillies will be celebrating their World Series baseball championship with a parade in front of an estimated one million fans.

In honor of that championship and of the Philadephia Soul's championship this summer, we would like you to know that we broke the "Curt Weldon curse" that has been hovering over the Philadelphia region sports teams since 1986.

In 1986, Curt Weldon, a Republican, took office as the Congressman for this District. During the ensuing 20 years that Curt held this seat until we defeated him in 2006, not one major championship was achieved by Philadelphia area sports team.  The last major championship won was the 1985 NCAA Men's Basketball title by Villanova University, which coincidentally is located in our District.

During the 20 years that Curt was in office, not one championship was won by the Philadelphia Phillies; Philadelphia Eagles; Philadelphia 76ers; or Philadelphia Flyers.

Philadelphia sports fans not only suffered through this 20-year drought, but also suffered the following disappointments:

*   1986 Philadelphia Flyers losing in the Stanly Cup Finals;
*   1993 Philadelphia Phillies losing in the World Series Championships;
*   2001 Philadelphia 76ers losing in the NBA Finals;
*   2004 Philadelphia Eagles losing in the Super Bowl;
*   2004 St. Joseph University's Men's Basketball Team went 27-0 in the regular season, was ranked No.1 in the NCAA Basketball Tournament but lost in the tournament; and
*   2004 Smarty Jones, Chester County's born and raised thoroughbred racing horse, won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness races but lost in the Belmont, failing to win the Triple Crown of horseracing.

Since we defeated Curt in 2006 and removed the Curt Weldon ("C.W.") curse, we've already won, in 2 short years, 2 major championships in the Philly region: the Philadelphia Soul Indoor Arena Football Champions and the Philadelphia Phillies.  We would like to continue these winning ways.

Well guess what?  This year the Republicans selected as their candidate an individual who bears the same initials as Curt Weldon; yes, my opponent's initials are also C.W.

So if you are a sports fan, and would like to continue the winning ways in our Philly region (and are maybe a bit superstitious), you might want to consider making a contribution to continue our winning ways to prevent the curse of "C.W." from returning, and to support our winning team.

And, if you are not a sports fan, then later today we'll have one more "surprise" to announce ... that we have been working on all summer and fall ... that I will ask you to support as our final component to winning this Tuesday, November 4th on Election Day.

Until my next e-mail ....

Warmly,

Joe Sestak
Congressman PA-07
