Murtha's seniority continues to rise

The dean of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. John Murtha (D-Johnstown), continues climbing Washington's rungs of power.

After swearing in today, Murtha will be the eighth-most senior U.S. House member and the 12th-most senior member in Congress, reports The Tribune-Democrat Monday.

If Murtha, who was originally elected in 1974, wins re-election in two years, he will become the longest serving member of the Pennsylvania delegation ever, the paper reports.

The 76-year-old Murtha has said he doesn't have any plans to retire.
