The Trib Editorial Board vs ACORN. Again.

I guess we gotta do this every few weeks. The last time was July 2.

Here's what they write today:
On the "Watch List": Dan Onorato and Luke Ravenstahl. The Allegheny County chief executive and the mayor of Pittsburgh have begun an eight-month push to bolster census-response rates. Indeed, an accurate count is to the benefit of all. But here's a critical question for them:

Do they support the involvement of ACORN in the survey process? That would be the same ACORN that's accused in a number of states, Pennsylvania included, of voter registration fraud. That would be the same ACORN that aided the subprime mortgage mess by bullying banks to lend to those with dubious financial means.

ACORN, Bachman and The Trib

Curious how content-free factoids make it through the right wing noise machine, isn't it? Kinda resembles how oats make it through a horse.

First, I stumbled upon this editorial at the Trib. It begins:
If Senate Republicans have to play hardball to force the removal of ACORN from the ranks of "2010 Census Partners," so be it.

There are compelling reasons why the liberal activist group should not help recruit U.S. Census Bureau workers. Among them -- allegations in more than a dozen states that it used illegal voter-registration quotas and its long history of bias that clearly sucks up to all-things-Democrat.

Will ACORN conduct 2010 Census?

House Republican Leader John Boehner today issued the following statement on the public hearing of Robert Groves to be the Director of the Census before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs:
The Census is a constitutional exercise that is fundamental to our democracy and must not be influenced by partisan politics. I appreciate Mr. Groves' opening comments and his responses to direct questions to commit, under oath, that statistical sampling and statistical adjustment will not be a part of the 2010 Census nor will such practices be a part of the 2020 Census. Once again, state GOP assails ACORN, questions election fairness

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.: Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes has issued a response to the GOP's press conference, calling the allegations that county election boards can't handle the influx of voters "disappointing."

"The majority of the counties in Pennsylvania are controlled by Republican commissioners," Cortes said. "While the Republican Party might not have confidence in the counties' ability to administer a fair election, we do."

State GOP files injunction against ACORN, secretary of commonwealth

HARRISBURG -- The state Republican Party filed an injunction Friday against Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes and ACORN, alleging a fair vote on Nov. 4 is impossible because of rampant voter fraud.

The injunction signals a step up in action against ACORN, which for weeks has been the recipient of attacks from the state GOP and John McCain's presidential campaign.
