In the 39th, logistics Ward's first hurdle

Kim Ward faces many challenges as she scrambles to make herself into a state Senate candidate.

Raise her name recognition, rein in disappointed supporters of state Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland County), tout her Republican principles.

But after two days full of campaigning following her official appointment Saturday, Ward has come across another, unexpected, difficulty -- answering the phone.

Bompiani: Ward doesn't change my race

Nov. 4 won't be the first time state Senate candidates Tony Bompiani and Kim Ward go head to head.

The Democrat Bompiani served on the Hempfield Area School District school board while the Republican Ward was a Hempfield Township supervisor.

"I know Kim Ward very very well professionally," Bompiani told PolitickerPA.com. "She's very tough ... very hard-nosed.

Ward to run for state Senate

Westmoreland County Commissioner Kim Ward officially entered[img_assist|nid=1210|title=Kim Ward|desc=Campaign Photo|link=none|align=right|width=111|height=138] the 39th state Senatorial District race Wednesday, setting the stage for what will surely be an intense, closely watched race already rocked by the sudden resignation of state Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland County).

Although Ward is not officially on the ballot until the Westmorland County Republican Committee selects her, it will almost certainly do so when it meets Saturday.

As Regola's status remains uncertain, his opponent moves forward

The status of state Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland County), and whether he will make an announcement today about the future of his candidacy, remained a mystery Monday morning.

But his opponent, Democrat Tony Bompiani, is moving forward with or without a decision from Regola -- his campaign has scheduled a press conference Tuesday afternoon to, in its words, "speak on the state of his Senate race and reinforce the primary themes of his campaign."

Will Regola step down?

We won't find out until Monday, according to a spokesman in his campaign office.

The campaign otherwise refused to comment on reports, first posted by PolitickerPA.com's columnist Wally Edge, that say Republican state Sen. Bob Regola will take himself off the ballot this fall.
