If Gerlach vacates seat, Roggio gives himself a 50-50 chance of running again

In the early hours of Election Day in November, it looked like Democrat Bob Roggio had a fighting chance of upsetting incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland). The returns from the bluer, Montgomery County parts of the 6th Congressional District were coming in early, and Roggio was sporting a lead in a race few gave him a chance of winning.

But Gerlach did well in Chester and Berks Counties, and once again narrowly defeated his Democratic opponent in the increasingly Democratic district.

Gerlach gubernatorial bid would mean big opening for Dems in PA-6

U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) is considering a run for governor in 2010, and while political watchers may disagree about the viability of his candidacy, one thing is certain: A decision by Gerlach to vacate his 6th Congressional District seat would open a huge window for Democrats.

Inquirer calls PA-6 for Gerlach

The Inquirer has projected that U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) will win his reelection race against Democrat Bob Roggio.

The race had stretched into Wednesday morning, as Gerlach erased an early Roggio lead and then some, racking up solid margins in Chester and Berks counties. Roggio had yet to concede shortly after midnight, and a campaign spokeswoman didn't return a call seeking comment.

Gerlach building lead, but no concession yet in PA-6

In a sign that the contest was closer than many had expected, the race for the 6th Congressional District was stretching into Wednesday morning.

Underdog Democrat Bob Roggio had been leading early Tuesday night on the strength of a solid showing in the Montgomery County areas of the district. But U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) quickly retook the lead later by performing well in Chester and Berks counties.

Roggio also hopping on Obama bus

At this point, maybe they should just call it the "Democrats for Congress Bus."

With Gov. Ed Rendell traversing the state to campaign for Barack Obama, other candidates have been joining him for the ride. Add Bob Roggio to the list.

After U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) hopped on the bus today, Roggio will jump onboard Saturday. During his ride, the bus will make stops in Reading, Pottstown, Coatesville, Prospect Park and Norristown.

Roggio is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) in the 6th Congressional District.

Casey, other Dems stump for Roggio

BRYN MAWR-The few dozen people who had turned out to see U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) vouch for Congressional candidate Bob Roggio Friday had to wait more than an hour in the increasingly cold fall weather for the junior Senator to arrive.

But few left, as down-ballot Democratic candidates talked up their election day prospects and man-of-the-hour Roggio, who is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) in the 6th Congressional District.

Roggio stays steady on fundraising, still faces gap

The Congressional campaign of Democrat Bob Roggio raised almost exactly the same amount in the third quarter as it did in the second, leaving it with about $216,000 in cash on hand three weeks before Election Day.

The third quarter numbers for Roggio's 6th Congressional District opponent, U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland), had not been published as of Wednesday evening. But the Gerlach campaign said it had about $700,000 on hand and was preparing a final advertising push.
