Dent responds to Bennett debate challenge

Shortly after PolitickerPa.com reported Democrat Sam Bennett's debate challenge to U.S. Rep. Charles Dent (R-Allentown), the Dent campaign issued a response.

While saying that Dent "looks forward" to debating Bennet on energy and how her 'drill nothing' approach will increase the price at the pump that Americans will have to pay," the campaign also said her timing showed that she "doesn't get it."

Another debate challenge, this one from Bennett

Bennett blasts Dent for housing bill vote

Congressional candidate Sam Bennett accused her opponent, U.S. Rep. Charles Dent (R-Allentown), of voting the party line over his constituents' own interest by opposing a contentious housing bill that is expected to pass in Washington shortly.

The legislation for massive government assistance in the struggling housing market has been opposed by many Republicans, and President Bush had threatened a veto until dropping that threat recently, virtually assuring its passage.

In a statement Thursday, Bennett criticized Dent's opposition to the legislation.

Dent nets $231K for 2Q

U.S. Rep. Charles Dent (R-Allentown) raised more than $231,000 for his reelection bid during the second quarter, leaving the 15th District incumbent with more than $686,000 in cash on hand, according to campaign finance reports published today.

Dent is facing Democrat Sam Bennett in the fall. Bennett's numbers had not yet been published early Tuesday afternoon.

Dent has now raised over $1.1 million during the election cycle and has spent more than $775,000.
