Sestak, Murphy and Schwartz all projected to win big

The three Democratic incumbents representing the Philadelphia suburbs in Congress were all projected to win reelection handily Tuesday night.

U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Edgmont) was leading Republican Craig Williams by almost 20 points in the 7th Congressional District. U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Bristol) was in front of Republican Tom Manion by about 16 points in the 8th Congressional District. And U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Abington) was romping Republican Marina Kats by almost 30 points in the 13th Congressional District.

Why is Joe Sestak sitting on so much money?

U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak has been a fundraising juggernaut during his first re-election bid, collecting more than $3.6 million in campaign contributions, but it's the relatively modest amount that he's spent which is raising eyebrows.

The Edgmont Democrat has raised more money this election cycle than all but one of his fellow Pennsylvania Democratic incumbents (fellow freshman U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy edges him by barely $90,000).

"At a time when too many in Washington are guided by political calculation, Joe is the kind of leader who calls them as he sees them."

Blackout doesn't stop Sestak campaign

The heavy rain that delayed Saturday night's Phillies game hit the world of politics, too. At the campaign headquarters of U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Edgmont) in Media, the storm led to a brief blackout.

But that didn't stop campaign staffers and volunteers from working the phones, campaign spokesman Chris Ortman said.

Photos he sent PolitickerPA.com show the campaign staff using cell-phones and flashlights to continue organizing their get-out-the-vote efforts.

Williams gets Inquirer endorsement

Republican Congressional candidate got what could be an important boost from the left-leaning editorial page of The Inquirer today when it endorsed him over freshman U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Edgmont).

It was hardly a ringing endorsement, calling Williams an "equally impressive choice" as Sestak, and saying that electing the GOP candidate would help bring some balance to an increasingly Democratic Congress.

Still, the Sestak campaign quickly fired off e-mails about the endorsement to reporters.
