Gerlach says he won’t run for two offices at once in 2010

UPDATED: For Cunningham, reelection comes before gubernatorial bid

Corbett campaign in the red, for now

Republican Attorney General Tom Corbett is described by most in the GOP as the party's front-runner for its gubernatorial nomination in 2010 after a surprisingly comfortable re-election victory this fall.

But his campaign has a hitch: It's out of money.

A 30-day post-election campaign finance report filed with the state shows the Friends of Tom Corbett Committee with just $77,000 on hand after spending about $1.9 million this election cycle. It also has $85,000 in debt, putting the committee in the red.

Meehan reminds that 2010 still two years away

NEW YORK -- Those attending the three-day Pennsylvania Society can often speak with an urgency about a candidate or campaign that makes Election Day might seem like only a day away, not two years away.

But everybody needs to remember 2010's elections are not imminent, Pat Meehan told PolitickerPA.com in an interview this weekend.

"I think what happens here is people lose perspective," the rumored GOP gubernatorial candidate said shortly after the Pennsylvania Society Dinner ended.

Onorato on drink-tax criticism: Bring it on

NEW YORK -- Four decades of Pennsylvania political history suggest after eight years of a Democratic governor, Ed Rendell, the state is poised to elect a Republican its top executive.

But Allegheny County Chief Executive and rumored front-runner for the 2010 Democratic gubernatorial nomination Dan Onorato doesn't believe history is about to repeat.

"That's totally irrelevant," Onorato told PolitickerPA.com shortly after a reception he hosted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel ended.

Wagner considering run for Senate and governor

NEW YORK - Democratic Auditor General Jack Wagner told PolitickerPA.com Friday that he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate and governor.

While his consideration for governor is a well-worn topic among Pennsylvania politicos, word he might run against U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Philadelphia) could cause a stir among some and make others reassess what has quickly become a very crowded field of Democratic contenders.

The auditor general, who was re-elected this fall in a landslide, said he is "assessing these two political options."

Peterson says he might not support Meehan or Corbett

Retiring U.S. Rep. John Peterson (R-Pleasantville) plans to remain a figure in Pennsylvania politics after he retires this year, meaning the 5th Congressional District congressman could exert heavy influence on the 2010 gubernatorial and Senate races.

Gerlach's office confirms he's talked about gov. 2010

The office for U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-West Pikeland) confirmed Wednesday's report that the congressman has talked about running for governor in 2010.

Spokesman Kori Walter told PolitickerPA.com, "At this point, all I can share with you is a number of people have encouraged, recruited Jim to run for governor."
