Hey, folks! Someone is going to run against Daryl Metcalfe!

He's announcing his candidacy a little earlier than he originally planned.

Just got this in an email from Zack Byrnes:

Zack Byrnes to Announce Candidacy for 12th District State Representative Seat

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA – Democrat Zack Byrnes will announce his candidacy for the 12th District state representative seat on Sunday, November 1st, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Butler County Democratic Fall Event at South Butler Fire Hall.

Byrnes will challenge Representative Daryl Metcalfe, who has held the office for nearly 12 years. For Byrnes, the decision to run was made after Metcalfe’s most recent outburst against veterans. In an email to Operation FREE, a veteran’s group focused on the national security implications of climate change, Metcalfe called veterans supporting the organization traitors and compared them to Benedict Arnold.

Onorato's Announcement

As seen by Jim O'Toole of the P-G:

Basking in the afterglow of the G-20 summit, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato gave a hometown kickoff to his bid for governor last night before crowd of several hundred supporters and a smattering of vocal opponents.

Mr. Onorato, 48, cited a litany of environmental and development achievements from his two terms as county executive and said they offered a preview of the leadership he would provide for Pennsylvania.

He said the recent economic summit had given an international showcase to those accomplishments.

But the G-20 giveth and the G-20 taketh away.

The North Side native's speech was repeatedly interrupted by demonstrators loudly protesting the actions of police officers confronting crowds in Oakland and elsewhere during the event two weeks ago.

Newspaper: The real failures of lawmakers

While the Pennsylvania Legislature took action Tuesday to pay 77,000 state workers who faced several weeks of "payless paydays" due to the state's five-week-old budget impasse, the real failures of the Legislature were evident this week.

From an editorial in The Pottstown Mercury:The lawmakers "budget" passed Tuesday as a stopgap measure evades the real problem of their inability to collaborate on crafting a realistic plan for this commonwealth.

The fiasco that this budget process has become has already harmed the credibility and effectiveness of every aspect of government-run operations within Pennsylvania.

The lawmakers of Harrisburg don't deserve praise for this stopgap budget; they deserve to be fired for creating a situation that required it in the first place.Read the full editorial at the newspaper's Web site.

June 9th Taxpayers' Protest

Rep. Daryl Metcalfe is helping to coordinate a "Taxpayer's Protest" on June 9 in Harrisburg. All taxpayers are encouraged to come down to the state capitol and talk to their legislator, or simply sit in their office all day.

The Tea Parties succeeded in grabbing the attention of the media and legislators, but those events were only the beginning. This is your chance to keep the pressure on your elected officials to end years of out-of-control spending, borrowing, and unprecedented fiscal irresponsibility. Policies that have resulted in an estimated $3 billion budget deficit.
