Pennsylvania: Hillary Clinton

In case you were wondering...

Yes, it was sexist of Newsweek to use this out-of-context photo and headline (there's worse inside) for their Sarah Palin cover:

And yes, this is a totally awesome photo of Hillary Clinton by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue:

Conservative Joe Scarborough On The Latest Crazie

Joan Walsh tries to explain teh crazie:

Where to start to explain this hysteria? Since the height of Sarah Palin's dishonest and divisive campaign last September, I've been alarmed by the unique way in which Obama's opponents paint him as "the other." For the life of me, I can't think of another American politician -- not even Hillary Clinton, although it's close -- who has spurred such visceral, irrational hatred. (Tell me if I've missed anyone in comments.) Sure, John Kerry was "French" and Michael Dukakis was Greek (and looked like a pinhead in that dumb helmet), but only Obama is a Marxist Communist who pals around with terrorists and wants to harm your children.

WAPO Pulls Hillary "Mad Bitch" Beer Video

Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza have been offering up a video segment at The Washington Post website called "Mouthpiece Theater." Generally, it's just juvenile and deeply unfunny. The last edition, however, crossed over into pure ugly.

Their spoof of the "Beer Summit" included the line "We won't tell you who's getting a bottle of Mad Bitch" with a flashed photo of Hillary Clinton (because as we learned during the primary it's not wrong to call a bitch a bitch if she's a bitch - ugh).

The segment received enough criticism that WAPO decided to pull the video. You can still see it in all it's gory glory courtesy of Media Matters:

Franco Dok Harris Challenges Rivals to Put Limits on Campaign Contributions

From an email from the Harris camp sent to other Pittsburgh mayoral candidates:
To All Candidates for the Office of Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh:

I declared I would maintain campaign finance contribution limits on day one of my campaign, and I have kept my word. Because I am committed to the people of this city, not large contributor, back-door influence peddlers of the past, I remain the only candidate to enforce federal limits.

Following in the footsteps of President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, I am choosing to hold to the federal fundraising guidelines so that the people of the city of Pittsburgh can elect our Mayor--not special interests.

Palin and the Media

Just a reminder that while soon-to-be-ex Gov. Sarah "Quitter" Palin is now threatening to sue anyone in the media -- including bloggers -- who dare to criticize her, she hasn't always had much empathy towards those who were on the receiving end of hits from the MSM.

A Loaded Deck

Man, I really didn't want to go back here again, but the painfully punny "Payneful Mistake" blog has left me no choice:

Really, Payneful Mistake? The number one problem you have with Councilwoman Tonya Payne is that she supported Hillary Clinton in the Democratic PRIMARY despite her district's preference for Barack Obama?

Let's set aside that elected officials often come out for a candidate far earlier in the process than regular voters. Let's set aside that the whole reason for Super Delegates is to have a group of voters who don't necessarily represent the popular vote (not that I even like that system). Let's set aside that Payne has been a longtime supporter of the Clintons and a real fan of Hillary.

Patrick Dowd's Good Call

I received a call at 7:05PM on Saturday night and on comes the recorded voice of Patrick Dowd and I assume it's a typical campaign call, but it turns out to be anything but typical.

Turns out it was a virtual town hall. Once I signaled my agreement to participate I was connected to a live telephone conference with mayoral candidate Patrick Dowd and thousands of my fellow Pittsburghers. The moderator said that 2,000 people were on the line over the course of the event (the number of folks participating ebbed and flowed throughout the hour-long call).

Everyone was invited to ask questions of the candidate and Dowd had time to take about a dozen of them.

NEWS FEED: The Centrist

The Hottie in the White House?

The worship of the Obamas has reached absurd proportions.

Maxim magazine has released its 2009 Hot 100 list, a gallery of the 100 sexiest celebrities. There's always debate about who should be on the list, billed as the "definitive list of hotness." But this year, the editors of Maximum appear to have gone over the deep end.

At No. 93 on the list of sexiest women on the planet ... drum roll please ... Michelle Obama ... Yes, that would be First Lady Michelle Obama.

This is what the magazine had to say about the selection:
He may be dealing with two wars, an economic meltdown, and a rapidly graying dome, but at least our Commander in Chief gets to come home to the hottest First Lady in the history of these United States.

Clinton in Philly tonight to retire more campaign debt

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) will be in Philadelphia Wednesday night for a fundraiser, as she looks to retire as much of her campaign debt as possible before being confirmed as the incoming Obama administration's Secretary of State.

The event is being held at the home of local political dynamo and Democratic fundraiser David Cohen, who is also an executive vice president at Comcast. Vice President-Elect Joe Biden, Gov. Ed Rendell, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter are all expected to attend.

PolitickerPA.com’s 10 biggest political stories of the year

A political icon went to trial. A new Philadelphia mayor was installed and lauded, only to see the financial crisis crimp his plans. For a few weeks, the Keystone State was the center of the political universe. And of course, there were indictments galore, and a new "-gate" suffix to go along with the taxpayer bonuses allegedly handed out like candy for campaign work.
