Questions and comments on the use of force by Pittsburgh Police around the G-20 Summit

1. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano named the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh a "National Special Security Event" (NSSE). What were the parameters of this event? When did it officially end? Did the event only extend to the secured areas around the convention center or did it include the Oakland neighborhood and the rest of Pittsburgh?

2. The City of Pittsburgh availed itself of thousands of non Pittsburgh Police, state police, National Guard and the Coast Guard. Exactly when did their employment by the City end?

3. The City of Pittsburgh used of a Long Range Acoustic Device (know as a sound cannon) at last week's G20 protests ("the first time the sound cannon had been used publicly" or should that be against the public --US citizens on US soil).

Jack Kelly Sunday

Wait for it, Jack Kelly fans, wait for it...

In this week's column, Jack Kelly defends Sarah Palin's decision to quit her job (abandon her gubernatorial post, desert her beloved Alaska...whatever) and he does this with a bit of word-play that stretches and twists her decision to quit into something it almost completely wasn't. Take a look:
What do Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius and Jon Huntsman have in common? All were governors who resigned this year to pursue other opportunities, and did so without a peep of criticism from journalists or their fellow pols for "quitting" on the peoples of Arizona, Kansas and Utah, respectively.

Rendell: Wait, why is everyone upset? I don't have a life, either

HARRISBURG -- Gov. Ed Rendell is struggling to understand why anybody would take offense to a remark he made Tuesday that newly appointed Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano would be good at her job because "she has no life."

"What I said is Janet is a person who works 24/7," Rendell said at an afternoon press conference. "She has no life -- neither do I."

A Pittsburgh transplant and a Pa. mayor stump for Obama

The parade of politicians performing on the presidential campaign continues. Before U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was dining with former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) got some help in the state from Pittsburgh native and current Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano.

In town for the Democratic National Committee's platform meeting this weekend, Napolitano stayed in her hometown Sunday to address labor leaders.
