Pa. Democrats urged to help in Georgia Senate run-off

Pennsylvania Democrats are trying to do their part to give their party a filibuster-proof majority in the U.S. Senate.

State party Executive Director Mary Isenhour sent an email Monday asking Pennsylvania Democrats to make get-out-the-vote phone calls on behalf of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Martin, who will face U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) in a closely contested runoff election Tuesday.

Democrats reminded to vote whole ballot

The state Democratic Party sent an early morning e-mail to supporters Tuesday reminding them not to "stop at the top" when they vote.

"Be sure to vote for every Democrat on the ballot," wrote Mary Isenhour, the state party's executive director.

Pennsylvania Democrats told cooling off period over, time to unite

Gov. Ed Rendell issued what he called a "gubernatorial edict" at a rally in Carlisle last April, telling Democrats in attendence they needed to unite after the primaries ended.

"If your candidate loses, you have 10 days to be (angry)," he said at a rally that also featured U.S. John Kerry (D-Mass.). "And on the 11th day, go with all of your heart and soul and support the other candidate."
 
The 10 days are up, according to Mary Isenhour, executive director of the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee.

Obama campaign needs help from Clinton supporters in Keystone State

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) won Pennsylvania by 9 percentage points over U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on April 22 in part because she leaned heavily on the state's Democratic leaders, nearly all of whom were supporters.

If Barack Obama, who last week secured enough delegate support for the Democratic presidential nomination, wants to have the same kind of success against U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) this fall, he might need to do the same.
