Newt Gingrich and The Pornographer

Via Thinkprogress, there's this from Adult Video News:
In a truly unexpected move, the Washington, DC-based political action committee “American Solutions for Winning the Future” (ASWF) Wednesday informed Allison Vivas, president of the adult entertainment studio Pink Visual, that she is the recipient of the organization's Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2009. The PAC, which is headed by noted conservative politician Newt Gingrich, notified Vivas of the honor via fax.
AVN reported that Vivas issued a statement regarding the award:
I’m honored, and more than a little surprised, to receive this prestigious award. It never occurred to me that Newt Gingrich, one of the principal architects of the conservative ‘Contract with America’ in the 1990s, would be willing to brave criticism from the far right of his party in order to recognize good work done on the part of an adult entertainment professional.

More On Sally Kern

Hey, you remember Sally Kern, right?

She's the Oklahoma wingnut who declared that the Pittsburgh city council was controlled by gays.

Well here she goes again. In a proclamation titled "Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality" and signed "on the second day of July in the year of our Lord Christ Two Thousand and Nine" State Representative Kern declares, among other things, that those signing the proclamation believe that:
[O]ur economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis
And that:
[T]his nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery
The nation is promoting same sex marriage? And divorce is a form of debauchery? NOTE: I'm not saying that any of the other things she's listed ARE forms of debauchery, mind you.

Some Sanford Analysis

Let the analysis begin. First from S. A. Miller of the The Washington Times:
Social conservatives, the once-powerful force that focused the Republican agenda on moral virtue and family values, have suffered a diminished brand on the national political landscape as a steady stream of their icons have fallen prey to the vices they once preached against.

Extramarital affairs, gambling, alcohol abuse, prostitution and sexual pursuit of minors have taken a toll on the GOP.

A tearful South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford became the latest social conservative to fall, confessing Wednesday to an affair with a woman that ended with a bizarre episode, in which he disappeared from his security detail and flew to Argentina for a visit, leaving his four sons and wife on Father's Day weekend.

Jack Kelly Sunday

In this week's column, Jack Kelly loyally continues his support of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (no idea why) and in doing so, he takes a swipe at David Letterman.

Good Lord, doesn't he realize how easy this is going to be?

Jack begins:

President Barack Obama is, by far, the most popular politician in America. And there is little doubt who is No. 2.

The city of Auburn in upstate New York, population 28,574, held its first annual Founder's Day celebration June 6. The most famous of the city's fathers is William Seward, who as secretary of state purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867.
