Moderation critical in 3rd District, Dahlkemper says

Of the 19 U.S. representatives from Pennsylvania sworn-in Tuesday in Washington, Kathy Dahlkemper stood out. The Democrat was the only one who defeated an incumbent, former Congressman Phil English, this fall and only one of two new members of the state's delegation.

During an interview Tuesday evening with PolitickerPA.com, she acknowledged that if she wants to survive her freshman term, she must make sure she doesn't stray too far to the left in the moderate 3rd Congressional District.

Mengine to head Dahlkemper's staff

Tina Mengine ran Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper's successful campaign this fall against Republican incumbent Phil English.

On Friday, the congresswoman-elect announced Megine would also run her congressional office as chief of staff.

Mengine and an array of other newly anointed staffers were unveiled Friday at a press conference in Erie as Dahlkemper inches closer to formally becoming the 3rd Congressional District's representative.

English says Dahlkemper 'planting' stories critical of office closings

NEW YORK -- Outgoing U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie) has been the subject of several critical articles chastising the congressman for closing his constituent offices before his term is over.

On Saturday at the Pennsylvania Society, English fired back. He told PolitickerPA.com in an interview that the articles misconstrued reality, and he said they were "planted" by his victorious Democratic opponent, Kathy Dahlkemper.

Dahlkemper, victorious over English, says she's ready to change Washington

Newly elected Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper told PolitickerPA.com that she is poised to start working Wednesday to transition into her new job.

"It's been quite an evening," she said, shortly after declaring victory over U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie). "I'm just trying to savor the moment tonight -- tomorrow the work starts."

She beat English by 3 percentage points, or roughly 9,000 votes, according to preliminary results.

Clinton endorses Dahlkemper; English camp calls out Democrat's hypocrisy

Former President Bill Clinton formally endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Kathy Dahlkemper on Monday.

Dahlkemper, who faces U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie) in the 3rd Congressional District, gives Pennsylvania Democrats by far their best chance to gain an additional seat in Congress.

Dahlkemper to appear with Clinton at Erie rally

Democratic congressional candidate Kathy Dahlkemper will campaign with former President Bill Clinton tomorrow in Erie, her campaign told PolitickerPA.com.

The 4:15 rally, ostensibly for Barack Obama, could end up benefiting Dahlkemper more. She is engaged in a tight race against U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie) in the 3rd Congressional District, and the visibility granted by appearing with Clinton could give her a final push a day before Nov. 4..

Pundit Sabato says Dahlkemper will win

Another national political outlet has declared Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper will beat 14-year incumbent U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie).

University of Virginia political analyst Larry Sabato has called the 3rd Congressional District race a "Democratic pick-up."

Sen. Casey endorses Dahlkemper

Democratic congressional candidate Kathy Dahlkemper will receive an endorsement Friday from U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Scranton), a Democrat who like Dahlkemper portrays himself as a conservative member of the liberal party.

Each candidate is anti-abortion.

English, Dahlkemper fundraising battle tightens, 3Q report shows

U.S. Rep. Phil English's (R-Erie) once prodigious cash advantage over Democratic opponent Kathy Dahlkemper has nearly been erased, according to 3rd quarter fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. 

The 14-year incumbent has $394,011 on hand, compared to $274,850 for Dahlkemper.
