Pa. pols knock back a few with Casey

NEW YORK -- U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) had a smorgasbord of high-profile political guests at his party here Friday night, as the Pennsylvania Society weekend got off to a festive start.

On the second floor of The W Hotel in midtown Manhattan, members of the state's Congressional delegation, state lawmakers and business leaders were in attendance. U.S. Reps. Patrick Murphy (D-Bristol), Allyson Schwartz (D-Abington) and Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) were there too. Kanjorski, fresh off his come-from-behind re-election win, would not be interviewed.

After a narrow loss, Barletta unsure whether he’ll run again in 2010

Two weeks after narrowly losing his bid for Congress, Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta says he's not even thinking about whether or not he'll try again-yet.

"I haven't given that any thought at all right now," he told PolitickerPA.com in a phone interview Wednesday. "I'm going to just sit back and take a little time at all to reflect and then relax after a hard-fought campaign."

Barletta spokesman says returns could take a while

People waiting for the results of Pennsylvania's most competitive Congressional race may need to a wait a bit, Shawn Kelly says.

Kelly, the campaign spokesman for Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, said the combination of paper ballots in Lackawanna County and lines potentially stretching past the official poll-closing time could make for late returns.

"It could be a long night," Kelly told PolitickerPA.com by phone.

Roll Call poll has Kanjorski down 6 only hours before Election Day

It's official: Every independent poll since the summer has shown longtime U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) as the rare Democrat on the path to defeat.

The latest poll comes from SurveyUSA on behalf of Roll Call (subscription only), and finds Kanjorski trailing Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta by 6 points, 51 percent to 45 percent.

Echoing other political forecasts, Roll Call says Kanjorski "could be the most vulnerable House Democrat in the country."

UPDATED: Bill Clinton to campaign for Kanjorski Monday

The day before the toughest political battle of his career, U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) will get an assist from former President Bill Clinton.

Clinton is scheduled to campaign for Kanjorski Monday afternoon at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre.

Kanjorski, the longtime incumbent facing Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta in the 11th Congressional District, is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress.

UPDATE: The Kanjorski campaign now says the event will take place Monday evening, not afternoon, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Kanjorski to hop on Obama bus tour today

U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) will join Gov. Ed Rendell on his cross-state bus tour Friday to campaign for Barack Obama.

Kanjorski, who is running against Republican Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta in the 11th Congressional District, could no doubt use the face time with his own constituents. He is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress.
