Pittsburgh City Council Passes the Amended Amended Act 47 Recovery Plan 6 to 3

For: Burgess, Kraus, Motznik, Payne, Peduto, Smith
Against: Dowd, Harris, Shields

For those who didn’t see it, the discussion before the vote basically went the way you’d imagine: Harris asked the same question half a dozen times, Shields bloviated, etc.

Our Overlords kept 30 out the 42 amendments changes suggestions made by Council last week.

Pittsburgh City Tax Filing Deadline Delay Proposal Made by Peduto & Shields

So it's April 16th and you hopefully already filed all your taxes, but if you tried to file online for Pittsburgh city taxes you probably met with a glitch.

According to Pittsburgh's own Glimmer Twins:

Due to recent technical problems, the PGH 40 online filing system on the Department of Finance’s website has been down regularly for at least the last 12 days. Numerous residents have reached out to City Council for help during this time.

“The City instructed residents that online filing of the PGH 40 tax return would be an option this year, but challenges with technology have not made this possible,” Peduto said. “It is only fair that we give residents an extension on this filing.”

Councilmen Peduto and Shields will introduce legislation at City Council’s Tuesday meeting to officially extend the deadline for this year. Procrastinators (and those without access to paper & pen) rejoice!

The Debates

I'm trying to piece together a coherent picture of what happened yesterday with the debate.

First the debate was postponed. Here's Boren from the Trib:
KDKA-TV asked Ravenstahl to postpone a debate set for Wednesday because of the shootings. The mayor told the station he does not have time to reschedule before the May 19 Democratic primary.
And a few paragraphs later:

Anne Linaberger, KDKA-TV's acting news director, said the decision to seek a postponement was based on "logistical issues" with planning a debate so soon after producing eight hours of live coverage of the officers' memorial service.

"We also questioned the appropriateness of debating important and pressing city issues without putting some time between the coverage of this emotional story and the debate.
