Early returns look good for Dems Wagner, McCord

Democrats Jack Wagner and Rob McCord seem to be cruising in their row-office races in early returns.

Wagner, the incumbent Auditor General, was leading Republican Chet Beiler by about 36 points, 66.6 percent to 30.6 percent, with almost 48 percent of precincts reporting. Wager had about 1.4 million more votes than Beiler.

McCord, the party's candidate for the open state Treasurer seat, was leading Republican Tom Ellis by about 25 points, 61.3 percent to 36.6 percent with almost half the precincts reporting. He was up more than half-a-million votes.

McCord up 17, internal poll reports

An internal poll shows Democrat Rob McCord beating his Republican opponent, Tom Ellis, by 17 percentage points, a positive sign for the businessman as he tries to take advantage of a favorable year for Democrats in Pennsylvania.

The poll, taken Anzalone Liszt Research, says McCord leads Ellis 43 percent to 26 percent. It reports the lead grows to 18 percentage points when voters "hear basic positive information about both candidates," 55 percent to 37 percent.

Ellis has $87K on hand

Republican state Treasurer candidate Tom Ellis has a little more than $87,000 in cash on hand with Election Day just over a month away, the campaign told PolitickerPA.com.

The candidate's fundraising numbers pale in comparison to his Democratic opponent Rob McCord, who has $2 million on hand. Ellis acknowledged as much in an interview last week.

Ellis says fundraising numbers won't match McCord's

Republican candidate for state Treasurer would not disclose his recently filed campaign finance data to PolitickerPA.com on Wednesday, but he acknowledged that his numbers would pale in comparison to his opponent.

"I know it's going to be a lot less than [Democratic candidate Rob] McCord," Ellis said. "We are not going to comepte with Mr. McCord on that level.

Internal Ellis poll shows tight race for treasurer

The race for state treasurer could be in a statistical dead heat, with Democrat Rob McCord leading Republican Tom Ellis by as little as one point, according to an internal poll commissioner by the Ellis campaign.

But a polling memo obtained by PolitickerPA.com provides almost no details of how the poll was conducted, making its veracity difficult to assess

Thirty percent of voters are undecided in a race that has garnered almost no attention, according to the poll.

McCord: 'The treasurer's office really matters'

DENVER--The race for state treasurer is getting little attention during an election cycle dominated by the presidential race.

This morning, the Democratic nominee for the statewide office got some notice, addressing Pennsylvania delegates at breakfast here.

"The treasurer's office really matters," said Rob McCord, who is running against Republican Tom Ellis.

Gov. Ed Rendell introduced McCord as "someone who understands all the intricacies of finance," describing him as "truly the energizer bunny."
