Farnese gets Appropriations spot

He won't control the purse strings the way his predecessor did, but state Senator-elect Larry Farnese can at least boast a presence on the same powerful committee.

Farnese, the Democrat elected to replace indicted state Sen. Vince Fumo (D-Philadelphia) last month, has been given an early appointment to the Senate Appropriations Committee, his office announced Wednesday.

He was also appointed several other committees, including Banking & Insurance and Labor & Industry.

Farnese cuts into debt, but much still remains

Democrat Larry Farnese, almost certain to be the powerful 1st District's new state Senator, was hoping to wipe out his significant campaign debt before Election Day next week. The campaign made progress, but not enough to reach that goal.

Farnese, who won a hotly-contested April primary over electrician's union leader John Dougherty, still has more than $334,000 in campaign debt, his campaign manager Renee Gillinger told PolitickerPA.com Monday.

Morley to air TV ads in 1st Senatorial District

Stepping up his long-shot campaign against Democrat Larry Farnese, Republican Jack Morley will be airing two TV commercials in the coming weeks.

It's an ambitious effort by Morley--boosted by recently improved fundraising--in an overwhelmingly Democratic district where he is a virtual unknown. The spots could air as soon as this week on the local Fox station in Philadelphia.

Farnese aims to wipe out debt before election with aggressive fundraising push

PHILADELPHIA-With his election virtually assured but his campaign still deeply in debt after a fiercely competitive primary, Democratic state Senate candidate Larry Farnese is preparing an aggressive fundraising push over the next two months.

Farnese has 11 fundraisers scheduled between now and late October, his campaign manager told PolitickerPA.com, and four more could still be arranged before Election Day. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is scheduled to attend a fundraiser Oct. 23, and City Councilmen Jim Kenney and Frank DiCicco will attend an event Sept. 19.

Farnese blasts court's casino ruling

Democratic state Senate candidate Larry Farnese on Monday lambasted the state Supreme Court's recent ruling upholding two casinos' rights to contentious waterfront locations in Philadelphia.

In a statement, Farnese, who is running to replace longtime state Sen. Vince Fumo (D-Philadelphia) in the 1st Senatorial District,  said the court "has given away the store."

On stage, Farnese picks up the comedy after a slow start

Another technician pleads guilty in Fumo case

Another computer technician from state Sen. Vince Fumo's office pled guilty to obstruction Tuesday, making him the second technician from Fumo's office who will testify against the Philadelphia Democrat when his trial begins next month.
