Onorato promises to veto any opt-out of Public Option if he's Governor

From an email from Dan Onorato, Allegheny County Executive and PA gubernatorial candidate:
Dear friends:

On Monday, the U.S. Senate announced that its most recent healthcare bill includes a provision that allows states to choose whether or not to offer a "public option." Basically, states will be able to decide whether or not to offer their residents access to low-cost health insurance.

As Governor, I will veto any effort by the Pennsylvania General Assembly to "opt out" of the public option.

It is critical for Pennsylvania's employers and workers that we help lower healthcare costs. I believe that the proposed public option will help expand competition and reduce prices while maintaining our current fee-for-service system.

Teh Birther Crazie Continues

Mike Castle is a moderate Republican (I thought they'd all been purged from the GOP by now - you live and learn) from Delaware. Former Governor and current House Representative from Delaware.

He got booed in his own state for declaring that President Obama is a US Citizen. The Washington Independent has the story:

A little evidence that [the birther] conspiracy theory is showing up in uncomfortable situations for Republicans: Here’s Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), a moderate Republican who hasn’t announced whether he’s running for re-election or for the U.S. Senate next year, at a town hall meeting earlier this month.

A woman gets up, holding a baggie containing her birth certificate, and unleashes a rambling, minute-long tirade tirade about how the president is a “citizen of Kenya.

Will Matthews play Hardball with Specter in 2010?

The rumor mill is in full force this week over the possibility that television host and Philadelphia native Chris Matthews will mount a 2010 U.S. Senate challenge against Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.

Appearing Monday night on The Colbert Report at the University of Pennsylvania, Matthews, who hosts MSNBC’s Hardball, when pressed by Colbert for an announcement responded, “Some kids want to be a fireman, I want to be a Senator.”

Specter's Hodgkin's disease returns

After a routine chest and abdomen scan and a follow-up biopsy of a suspicious lymph node, doctors have determined that U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter's Hodgkin's disease has returned, albeit at a "significantly less advanced" stage, according to a statement released Tuesday evening by the office of Pennsylvania's senior senator.
