Cook narrowly outpaces Rohrabacher in 2Q money

Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook has outraised Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) in the second quarter, according to fundraising reports made public Tuesday.

Cook took in $92,990 between April and June and had $97,392 in cash on hand at the close of the reporting period. Rohrabacher, meanwhile, raised $78,712 during the period and had $387,950 on hand.

Cook has raised $157,269 during the course of the cycle, while Rohrabacher has raised $323,966.

Cook met with DCCC in April to to discuss Rohrabacher challenge

Debbie Cook, the Huntington Beach mayor who is challenging nine term U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, met with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in April to discuss her campaign for the Orange County-area seat in April, PolitickerCA.com has learned.

“Debbie has met with the DCCC in Washington and we are in conversations with them on a regular basis,” said Joe Shaw, a spokesman for Cook.

Shaw said the DCCC had not discussed the prospect of helping to fund Cook’s effort. Without elaborating, he added, “they have given us other types of assistance and they continue to do so.”

The DCCC confirmed the April meeting but did not specify what was discussed.

Cook, who is her first term as mayor and is a former member of the Huntington Beach City Council, faces an uphill battle in her effort to unseat Rohrabacher. The district has a history of trending conservative, with George W. Bush winning 57 percent of the vote there in his 2004 White House run.
