Harris County Attorney doing his job

Well this is refreshing. Harris County Attorney, Vince Ryan, is coming under attack by Harris County Commissioner's Court for ....uh.... doing his job.
Ryan had already signed a deal with the city to help it prosecute polluters in exchange for use of experts and monitoring equipment with which the county can build cases.
Wow. Our County Attorney is going after polluters by working with the City of Houston and sharing resources. Who can possibly argue with that?
"I think that it's your responsibility to do those things that we, Commissioners Court, ask of you, and I see that you've got the cart in front of the horse," Commissioner Jerry Eversole told Ryan.

Why a Democrat should challenge Jerry Eversole

City Council Member Toni Lawrence has decided not to challenge ethically challenged Jerry Eversole. Why?
"We have a lot of mutual friends, we really do, and it was really tough on a lot of those mutual friends," Lawrence said. "It was putting pressure on those people of who they were going to support and what they were going to do."
This is an indication that ethics is just another word for nothing left to steal. Lawrence had an opportunity to challenge one of the most unethical County Commissioner in the history of Harris County, and yet declined. Lawrence and the republican party of Harris County obviously thinks what Jerry Eversole has done with his donors money is within ethical guidelines of the party.

What does it take for a Harris County republican to resign?

Harris County Commissioner, Jerry Eversole, has decided to seek re-election.

This is the same Jerry Eversole that was fined by the Texas Ethics Commission $75,000, the largest fine in its history. The same Jerry Eversole under investigation by the FBI. The same Jerry Eversole under investigation by the Harris County District Attorney. The same Jerry Eversole who took over $180,000 from his donors and spent it on fancy western art, cowboy outfits, western books, coffee, cattle, personal trainers, coffee, and more.

What does a republican have to do to get fired? Have sex with a hooker? Have sex with one of their staff members? That didn't seem to work since republican United States Senator Vitter and Ensign are still Senators.

Attorney representing Arthur Anderson endorses Locke

Rusty Hardin has endorsed candidate for Mayor, Gene Locke. Hardin's lists of clients include Commissioner Jerry Eversole, Supreme Court Justice Medina, Arthur Anderson after the Enron collapse, Houston Sports Authority, and who can forget Roger Clements during the Congressional hearings on steroid use.

Hardin is the "go to guy" when you need to get out of trouble, such is the case of Jerry Eversole According to Ch13, Eversole is under investigation by the FBI for his campaign spending.
Jerry Eversole is the latest named target of the corruption investigation. His newest campaign finance report shows he's spent $52,000 of his campaign funds on criminal defense lawyer Rusty Hardin, and that's just since January.

Eversole rambles about ethics charges

Harris County Commissioner Jerry Eversole looks like he is losing it. After being fined $75,000 and ordered to pay back $41,000 for using his campaign donations for personal use, Eversole goes on a wild ramble about Wayne Dolcefino's story the day before.

Clearly Eversole is trying to divert attention from the fact that he spent over $162,000 on livestock, western art, western clothing, western guns, and antique western books, and got away with over $121,000 of it.

Spending Campaign Cash: Jerry Eversole

The Texas Ethics Commission' (TEC) settlement with Harris County Commissioner Jerry Eversole has been posted to their website and has raised some significant questions about Eversole's spending habits. It also raises questions about the Ethics Commission's handling of this particular case. A spreadsheet of this information can be found here. Here is a quick breakdown of Eversole's expenses during 2006-2007:

Cattle $26,000+
Eversole spent over $26,000 on two "Livestock" auctions. He also spent about $1500 on meat processing. The TEC only addressed $16,000 of these expenses and concluded there was evidence of a violation. Why the TEC limited their review is not clear. Donating to a charity is allowed by the TEC, but not if you receive something in return.

Commissioner Eversole fined $75,000, sort of.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Harris County Commission Jerry Eversole has been fined $75,000 and has agreed to repay his campaign $41,000. According to Jerry Eversole:
“I have accepted responsibility for the past errors and used it as an opportunity to completely revamp our campaign finance disclosure practices,”
Jerry's past errors include buying fancy cowboy chaps, collectors books, vintage cowboy outfits, and rare firearms, all using his donros money. His statement sying he accepts responsibilty is the biggest horseshit statement ever. If Eversole really wanted to take responsibility for what he did, he would pay the $75,000 fien out of his own damn pocket.

Harris county Gropers punts on ethics reform

You have to wonder if the Grand Old Partiers (GROPERS) in Harris county are just plain stupid when it comes to ethics reforms. Harris County Commissioners are looking at some simple ethics reforms such as voluntary registration by lobbyists (like voluntary jail time for sex offenders) or posting all financial disclosure forms online, or mandatory ethics training.

Mandatory ethics training might have made Commissioner Jerry Eversole think twice before traveling around the country buying antique books, authentic cowboy chaps or a $25,000 antique pistol with his donors money, or spending a day golfing and working out on county time, but look what Eversole thinks about
