Obama to Texas: Here is An Additional $208 Million for Energy Efficiency

Um....WOW!

Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu today announced plans to invest $3.2 billion in energy efficiency and conservation projects in U.S. cities, counties, states, territories, and Native American tribes. This includes $208,759,900 for state, county and city efforts in Texas. A detailed breakdown is below.

Today’s announcement builds on an investment of $545,757,732 in Texas weatherization and energy funding announced by the Administration on March 12th and detailed at energy.gov/recovery.

“These investments will save taxpayer dollars and create jobs in communities around the country,” said Vice President Biden. “Local leaders will have the flexibility in how they put these resources to work – but we will hold them accountable for making the investments quickly and wisely to spur the local economy and cut energy use.

Schools czar discovers stimulus money for bricks and mortar

Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott says the state's potential pot of federal relief money is growing. Scott told a House panel studying the stimulus package tonight that Texas could draw down nearly $600 million for school construction, bringing to more than $6.8 billion the amount of federal stimulus funds available for public education.

The commissioner, who told House budget writers two weeks ago that Texas might snare between $5 billion and $6 billion for schools, said he learned about an "infrastructure financing tool" -- no-interest or very low-interest bonds for school construction -- during a stimulus-scouting trip to Washington last week. It could yield Texas $594 million, he said.

A visit to the George Bush Center for Intelligence

In spy novels, it's Langley. Commuters along the Virginia side of the Potomac River pass signs for the George Bush Center for Intelligence. Congress named it after Texas' own a decade ago. He's the only man to have served both as CIA director and president.

The agency doesn't often invite reporters over to HQ. But today, Vice President Joe Biden was there to swear in Leon Panetta as the new director.

"It's an honor to be here in the George Bush Center for Intelligence, named for a former director of this agency, and I believe one of the great public servants of our time," said Biden.

Republican Party of Texas talks up ‘Biden's Mouth' in new ad

The Republican Party of Texas has produced a new ad attacking Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden's more colorful statements over the years. The U.S. senator from Delaware is well-known for his verbal gaffes, and this video is a "greatest hits" of sorts, showing many of his better-publicized statements.

The online ad begins: "Barack Obama picked Joe Biden over Hillary Clinton... because Biden is a Washington, D.C. insider, and he can talk, and talk, and talk."

Frost, Mattox join Texas Democrats, call Palin 'inexperienced,' not ready to step into the presidency

Texas Democrats are attacking U.S. Sen. McCain's (R-Ariz.) selection of Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) for her lack of experience and questioning her ability to assume the presidency if necessary.

Former U.S. Rep. Martin Frost (D-Arlington) was surprised McCain picked a relative political newcomer with few years in office.

"It's a very unusual, questionable pick. For a 72-year old candidate to be picking an inexperienced, obscure running mate just underscores concerns about his age."
