If there was any doubt about Gene Locke

It should be erased with Miya Shay's post:

Just yesterday, Allen Blakemore hosted a lunch time meeting in his office between Christian Archer and Roy Morales. Archer is Locke’s campaign manager, and Morales is the Republican who finished with about 20 percent of the vote during the November election. Blakemore is Hotze’s consultant, but everyone involved says the meeting was not about attack ads.

Blakemore is the Karl Rove of Texas politics. He is one of the reasons I am so through with Locke, along with accepting $2000 from David Wilson who sent out the recent hate mail against Annise Parker. And getting caught playing both sides.

Roy Morale's biker coalition on a roll!

Roy Morales now has 18% of the vote. And Annise Parker is leading with 29% of the vote. Locke is losing ground, and Brown is losing to the biker crowd.

Parker has just entered the room and the media is all over her. People are excited. The staff have smiles all over their faces.

Look for Morales to continue to gain, but not much. More later.

varoom varoom.

Blogging from Annise Parkers Party

This has the makings of a great party. Lots of excitement. Just announced at the blogger table Annise 29.2 Locke 27.4 Brown 25.1 and Morales 17.25. Staff is very excited. Beer is not free. Crowd just got a glimpse of the results. Everyone is happy. So far.....

Morales. The biker vote must have come out because no one predicted 17% of the vote. This should be exciting. State Representative Jessica Farrar just walked into the room make the rounds.

More later.

What does $640/hour buy you?

What does $640/hour buy you? According to the Houston Chronicle, $117 million in debt:
Harris County taxpayers may have to inject up to $7 million a year into the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority for the next two years due to a financial crisis sparked by the souring of bonds used to build Minute Maid Park, Reliant Stadium and the Toyota Center.
The $640/hour is what the law firm charged for legal services to the Sports Authority. This is a complicated situation, but at $640/hour you would think this would have been prevented or resolved.

This is also Gene Locke's law firm. This story isn't what Locke wanted just 7 days before the election while sinking in the polls with a solid 3rd place and Morales creeping up on him.

No spending for you in Houston Mayor race.

Outgoing Mayor, Bill White, laid the law on the candidates for Mayor about new spending in 2010. From the Houston Chronicle:
“Texas has not come out of the recession, and sales tax receipts are dropping,” White wrote in a post on his Facebook page Tuesday. “Be sure not to vote for our next mayor based on commitments of more spending in the next two years.”
Candidates Locke, Parker, and Brown make good arguments on how they would not spend any new money since no new money will be coming it. Locke will leave his promise of a Hispanic Museum to private donors to build.

Observation on the Houston Latino Summit Mayoral Forum

The Event.
First, the organizers of the Houston Latino Summit should be commended. It was a very professional and well attended event. Thanks to City Councilman James Rodriguez, Marc Campos, and all the others who contributed to the success. The event had a good set of questions as well as participation by the audience. Good event. I hope to see more in the future.

Hispanic Museum.
I have not been in the loop on the proposed soccer stadium on the east side of Houston, but I really must be out of the loop on the proposed Hispanic Museum promised to the Hispanic audience by candidate Gene Locke.

Hispanic Latino Summit Mayoral Forum

Good crowd. All the candidates are here, as well as Roy Morales. City Councilman James Rodriguez has opened the event. Minerva Perez, former journalist for KTRK is the moderator.

Opening statements:

Roy Morales
Wow. Morales is not bilingual! That is a shock. Didn't expect the other candidates to be, but was surprised to hear Morales was not. Well, no wonder he doesn't like immigrants! Morales starts his opening statement. He was a decorated veteran.

Annise Parker
Native Houstonian. Passion is with quality of life issues. Created the rainy day fund which helped Ike recovery. Number one issue is the economy.

Peter Brown
Native Houstonian. Future of the city and Hispanic community go hand in hand.

KXAN Introduces the Austin Mayor's Race

This is actually a pretty interesting round-up introducing the official kick off the Austin Mayor's race in the local media's eyes as produced by KXAN. Also, if you are very sharp eyed, you might recognize a couple BOR writers at the 35 second mark.

Also, it was interesting to see the relatively unknown Jason Morales on camera who was quoted with this statement in the story.

"I know Austin needs a professional, someone who has been in the trenches, someone who has dealt with finances, someone who has dealt with a budget." said Morales. "The city needs someone who knows how to tackle these issues and do it efficiently.
