Nassau Bay post office to close.

The Nassau Bay post office could be on the chopping block:

The Postal Service may register a loss of nearly $7 billion this fiscal year in spite of a 2-cent increase in the price of stamps in May, cuts in staff and removal of collection boxes.

Post officials sent a list of nearly 700 potential candidates for closing or consolidation to the independent Postal Regulatory Commission for review. More may be added.

In the Houston area, officials are targeting four locations: Addicks Barker, 16830 Barker Springs; Genoa, 10935 Almeda Genoa; Westchase Finance, 3836 S Gessner and Nassau Bay, 18214 Upper Bay.

Of the four, one will be closed.

Clear Lake fireworks fizzle out this year

There will be no fireworks for the 4th of July on Clear Lake.

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Fourth of July fireworks display over the lake is no more.

"There are so many other displays on the lake that that's why the chamber has decided to step away," said spokeswoman Febe Menendez. "Rather, we'll support the other fireworks shows instead of competing with them."

The Clear Lake fireworks were the highlight of the Bay Area over the years. A few years ago when they moved the display from the middle of the lake to the front of the high rise condo complex, they seem to be a dud. Seems to be fitting since the complex owner has filed for bankruptcy. Now there will be none.

Look for the displays in the area as an alternatie. Nassau Bay, Webster, Friendswood, or travel to Houston to see a big event.

NASA Administrator to be named!

From MSNBC:
Charles F. Bolden Jr., who is likely to be named NASA administrator, flew on four space shuttle missions and commanded the first shuttle mission to include a Russian cosmonaut as part of the crew.Bolden lives in Nassau Bay just across the street from Johnson Space Center. His experience with the center could help with JSC's funding. More from MSNBC:
If he is chosen as expected, Bolden, a veteran of four spaceflights with more than 680 hours in Earth orbit, would be the first African-American appointed to NASA's top post. Bolden retired from the Marine Corps in 2003 as a major general.Maybe now NASA employees will quit complaining and get their act together on what they intend to accomplish in the next 10 years and how they intend to fund the activities. Eitherway, Bolden seems to be a good choice. Hopefully he will have better political skills than Mike Griffin.
