New Democratic campaign puts Rep. Sessions on target list

The Democrats' House campaign arm is targeting a dozen Republican congressmen who voted against the economic stimulus package.

On the list: Rep. Pete Sessions of Dallas -- who leads the Republicans' House campaign arm, a high-profile post that gives Democrats an extra incentive to take him on. Sessions unseated a former head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Dallas Rep. Martin Frost, after the last round of redistricting in 2003.

Click on the bulls-eye floating in North Texas and a pop-up of Sessions with detail about his vote on the stimulus appears.

Starting Tuesday, the Democratic campaign committee is putting automated calls to Sessions' district, and others on the list, about their opposition to the economic recovery bill.

DCCC Targets Pete Sessions in Major Grassroots Campaign

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), chaired by Congressman Chris Van Hollen, announced the DCCC is launching the third phase of the Putting Families First campaign on Tuesday targeting Republicans who opposed President Obama's economic recovery bill, the largest component of which is middle class tax cuts to 95 percent of Americans.

The campaign has named Pete Sessions (TX-32) as one of the 12 targets in the campaign.

Sessions is the Chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and has not only voted against the middle class tax cuts but has also encouraged his Republican Party to start acting like the Taliban.

Lone Star Project: Apologize Pete!

Yesterday Phil Martin wrote about Pete Sessions' demand that the GOP start acting more like the Taliban.

Today the Lone Star Project is demanding an apology.

In a bizarre and offensive interview with the editors of the Hotline, Dallas Congressman and newly elected National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) described the Taliban as a "model" for the Republican insurgency in the U.S. House of Representatives. Listen to the interview here.

Sessions comments go far beyond typical partisan rhetoric. His praise of the Taliban is dangerous and disrespectful to the thousands of American military families with loved ones serving and, too often sacrificing their lives, for our country.

TX-32: Pete Sessions Included on DSCC's Preliminary Target List

Some Texas bloggers have long argued that U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions was vulnerable. Until today, however, national Democrats have ignored TX-32 ever since Martin Frost lost to Sessions in 2002.

That has now changed with the DCCC's announcement that they will run radio ads in Session's district beginning this week.

From Politico, via Daily Kos:

The DCCC is running targeted radio ads and making 100,000 "person-to-person" calls to hammer 28 Republicans who voted against the stimulus last week and the leaders who high-fived afterwards.

The radio ads will run for about a week and target members on state-specific issues -- jobs, health care and education.

New RNC chairman welcomed by Cornyn and Sessions

The Texans responsible for electing more Republicans to Congress in the next two years are offering praise for the party's new chairman, Michael Steele, the former lieutenant governor of Maryland and the GOP's first African-American chairman. Steele won in the sixth round of balloting by party leaders, edging South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson after a half-dozen others were knocked out.

Dallas Rep. Pete Sessions, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, called Steele's victory today "an historic achievement for our Party and our country. Together, the RNC and the NRCC will work to address the concerns of all Americans in the spirit of President Lincoln.
