Cheney shoots Hutchinson in the face

Cheney has publicly endorse Hutchinson for Governor. This is about as disastoraous as Lee Brown endorsing Gene Locke, Tony Sanchez endorsing Peter Brown, or my favorite Sarah Palin endorsing Rick Perry. (Although Perry actually wanted Palin, in a political way) Hutchinson responded:
“I am so *&^%$# pleased,” Hutchison said Wednesday. “I fear the former vice president so much. I just hope he doesn't shoot me in my *&^damn frickin face!”
OK. So I took a tiny bit of liberty with her response. What could be worse for Hutchinson than an endorsement from Darth Vader who won't keep his damn mouth shut like every other former vice president does? Instead Cheney has become a camera whore looking for every opportunity to tell Obama how he is screwing up his war in Afhganistan and Iraq.

Mr. Tort Reformer stands behind an attorney

Leave it to Governor Tort Reformer, Rick Perry, to stand behind an attorney.
AUSTIN – Embroiled in a national controversy over whether he allowed the execution of an innocent man, Gov. Rick Perry adamantly has refused to release an advisory memo from his general counsel about granting a 30-day reprieve for Cameron Todd Willingham. So instead of being open with the public, Perry is going to abuse the court system by challenging the release of this information that should clear him of any wrong doing in the Willingham case. As most tort reformers, they denounce those who look for the help of an attorney, they demonize those who provide legal services, but then turn around and are the first in line to use one.

As I said, tort reformers suck.

Round-em up!

With the start of the new football season, the Texas Progressive Alliance invites you to read this week's roundup of blog highlights in the voice of John Facenda.

Last week, Texas got some much needed help from the Feds when the EPA slapped down Governor Perry's global warming denier pick for our state's top environmental official. This week, the EPA will have another opportunity to intervene in Texas when Mayor Calvin Tillman releases an environmental study of air quality in DISH, TX that will contrast dramatically with industry findings. Keep watching Bluedaze: DRILLING REFORM FOR TEXAS as TXsharon brings you that news.

Aggie Bonfire not coming back.

Leave it to Governor Rick Perry to state the Aggie Bonfire will return to the campus in 2010. Most understand that this will not happen. Ever.
"I will not be surprised if it happens by 2011, maybe even 2010," he said. "I think Bonfire will be back on campus. The kids will have the experience again."
After the Bonfire accident, that left 12 students dead and some requiring health care for the rest of their lives, the Texas Board of Professional Engineers reached an agreement with the University:
The agreement sets out certain requirements that Texas A&M agrees to comply with in the event that the bonfire tradition is resumed.

Is Perry Porkin' Palin?

What is going on with Governor Perry and his infatuation with Sarah "The Quitter" Palin?
"I love Sarah Palin, I love her positions, I think she was a good governor. . . . I want her to be engaged in this rebuilding of the Republican Party. . . . She is substantially more the face of this country than some other people who might want to be the face of the Republican Party. To me she's the face of America. I mean she's a hard worker, she didn't come from money, she didn't come from privilege, she just worked hard. . . .

The debate is on

Kay Bailey Hutchison and Rick Perry have both snapped up an invitation by the four Belo TV stations in Texas and yours truly, The Dallas Morning News, to participate in a live broadcast debate.
Format, time and location is still to be discussed, but with seven months before the election, it shows their willingness to face-off.
Three years ago, Perry would accept only one of more than a dozen debate invitations when he was the incumbent in the general election. He had three rivals at the time, Democrat Chris Bell and Independents Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman.
Other candidates are also in the Republican primary, such as Debra Medina. It has yet to be determined if anyone else will be invited into the debates.

Texas Gov accepts stimulus welfare. Teabaggers AWOL

Texas Governor Rick Perry is contending for Fiscal Hypocrite of the Year award given by the tea baggers of Texas. Just a month after speaking to a group of tea baggers on the steps of the capitol claiming fiscal responsibility and his refusal to accept stimulus funds, Perry craps on fiscal responsibility and accepts stimulus funds, not to create jobs, but instead to give Texas teachers a raise of $800.

Texas ranks 27th in teacher pay. God knows they deserve more money and respect. The $800 raise is only for 2 years then Texas (you the taxpayer) will have to pitch in from then on and you should do it with a smile on your face.

Perry's Predators missing in action at Ellington Airforce Base

In 2005 Governor Perry promised a squadron of Predator aircraft would be deployed at Ellington Air Force Base after losing the F16s of the 147th Fighter Wing due to the base realignment. Four years later the skies are silent with no Predators in sight. Here is Governor Perry in a press release back in 2005:

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced that Ellington Field in Houston will be home to a new squadron of Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicles as part of the Air Force’s Total Future Force plan designed to prepare the military for the demands of the 21st Century.

"The Predator is not only critical to today’s military missions, but also the missions of the future," Perry said.

Gov Perry begs for unemployment funds

In the words of bugs bunny "What a maroon!" Perry is trying to defend his request for a $170 million loan from the federal government after refusing the $500 million stimulus. Unlike the stimulus money, the $170 million must be paid back within 18 months before interest is charged and Texas is expected to ask for $650 million more because of rising unemployment. (From News 8 Austin, with video)
Texas has asked for this loan only one other time, in 2003. This year however, the decision is getting extra attention after Governor Rick Perry rejected federal stimulus money that would have replenished the fund. Perry said the stimulus would have expanded eligibility and cost more to business owners in the long run. Many are now questioning that decision
