If there was any doubt about Gene Locke

It should be erased with Miya Shay's post:

Just yesterday, Allen Blakemore hosted a lunch time meeting in his office between Christian Archer and Roy Morales. Archer is Locke’s campaign manager, and Morales is the Republican who finished with about 20 percent of the vote during the November election. Blakemore is Hotze’s consultant, but everyone involved says the meeting was not about attack ads.

Blakemore is the Karl Rove of Texas politics. He is one of the reasons I am so through with Locke, along with accepting $2000 from David Wilson who sent out the recent hate mail against Annise Parker. And getting caught playing both sides.

The shockers of the Houston elections

Roy Morales gets over 20% of the vote. That is a shocker. The man is clueless. Absolutely clueless and yet 20% of the voters want him as Mayor. Clue-frickin-less.

Peter Brown is in third place. After spending $3.2 Million of his wife's money, he is going to have a very long long Christmas season coming in 3rd place. How can you lose after spending $3.2 Million? Or come in 3rd. Kudus to the voters of Houston.

Gene Locke. Coming in 2nd place. That is a shocker to Peter Brown. So far he looks to be in a run off with Annise Parker. Everyone expected him to peak at 3rd. Maybe he will just peak at 2nd.

C.O. Bradford. I just don't get it. With all of his baggage with the crime lab, the voters of Houston put him back in office. Shocking. Just frickin shocking.

Would ya please pass the jelly?

Time to pass the jelly because someone in the Houston Mayoral race is toast and that first person is Roy Morales. With the polls ending in about 2 hours, it is pretty safe to say Roy will end the night in a solid 4th or 3rd place depending on the last minute turnout. Maybe that airplane banner flying over Houston this afternoon that said "Vote for Roy Morales" will drive out voters.

Regardless, this is the end of yet another run for a City office for Roy adding to his loss to Peter Brown, and twice to Melissa Noriega. The perpetual candidate should be buttered and jellied because he is now toast.

More toast predictions coming around 7:10PM. Oh...and speaking of passin da jelly:

Harris county republicans stealth endorsement

Harris County republicans have secretly endorsed Roy Morales for Mayor, which now amounts to two endorsements, with one being a right wing obscure blog. Morales at the KHOU debate claims he had 101 precinct chairs vote for him for this endorsement, but the city has over 800 precincts. Not exactly a resounding endorsement.

But more secretly, I believe the Harris County republicans are supporting Gene Locke. Locke has the Harris County Clerk, republican Beverly Kaufman endorsement, and according to Muse has recently been working with Stephen Hotze and Alan Blakemore, both very right wing supporters involved in republican campaigns. He has the support of corporate attorneys representing Metro, the Sports Authority, and the Port of Houston. And he has waffled, depending upon who he is speaking to, on the 287g program.

It is a secret that Locke is the elephant in the room.

Who shouldn't be Mayor of Houston?

We are lucky to have 3 qualified individuals running for Mayor of Houston. This election will probably end in a runoff. With this in mind, who should and shouldn't be Mayor of the city?

Who should:
Annise Parker. Annise is by far the most complete candidate running for Mayor. Her experience as a City Councilmember and as City Controller puts her head and shoulders above the rest especially in these economic times. Houston would be in very good hands with Annise Parker.

Peter Brown. Peter has the experience as a City Council Member, and with his strong message of planning and his business experience.

No money. His money. Big money. Grassroots money.

The financial reports for Houston City races have been posted and the results are in for candidates for Mayor.

Roy Morales has no money. As of today at 5:00 PM he has not filed a report, although the city has 2 business days to post. Don't expect anything any different than last period. Last reporting period he raised about $18,000 and had about $9,000 cash on hand.

Peter Brown has his money. Peter raised only $121,000, spent over $1.6 Million, and loaned himself $1.7 Million. He has $1.9 Million cash on hand.

Gene Locke has big money. Locke raised over $949,000 (lots of attorney money), spent over $500,000 with $1.

Time for a forum in Clear Lake for Mayor of Houston!

We will have margaritas afterward at a nearby restaurant.

Mayoral Forum Still on at the University of Houston – Clear Lake
The Bay Area Association of Democratic (BAAD) Women put on an excellent forum last week for Houston City Council at-large candidates. The BAAD Women surveyed area groups to determine the most important issues to residents and the queried the candidates on those subjects. This week, the BAAD Women are hosting the Houston mayoral candidates and City Council District E candidates for a similar event.

Although the Houston Chronicle reported that mayoral candidates have canceled some forums around town, the forum here is still on! The event is from 6:30-9 p.

No spending for you in Houston Mayor race.

Outgoing Mayor, Bill White, laid the law on the candidates for Mayor about new spending in 2010. From the Houston Chronicle:
“Texas has not come out of the recession, and sales tax receipts are dropping,” White wrote in a post on his Facebook page Tuesday. “Be sure not to vote for our next mayor based on commitments of more spending in the next two years.”
Candidates Locke, Parker, and Brown make good arguments on how they would not spend any new money since no new money will be coming it. Locke will leave his promise of a Hispanic Museum to private donors to build.

Observation on the Houston Latino Summit Mayoral Forum

The Event.
First, the organizers of the Houston Latino Summit should be commended. It was a very professional and well attended event. Thanks to City Councilman James Rodriguez, Marc Campos, and all the others who contributed to the success. The event had a good set of questions as well as participation by the audience. Good event. I hope to see more in the future.

Hispanic Museum.
I have not been in the loop on the proposed soccer stadium on the east side of Houston, but I really must be out of the loop on the proposed Hispanic Museum promised to the Hispanic audience by candidate Gene Locke.
