Cheney shoots Hutchinson in the face

Cheney has publicly endorse Hutchinson for Governor. This is about as disastoraous as Lee Brown endorsing Gene Locke, Tony Sanchez endorsing Peter Brown, or my favorite Sarah Palin endorsing Rick Perry. (Although Perry actually wanted Palin, in a political way) Hutchinson responded:
“I am so *&^%$# pleased,” Hutchison said Wednesday. “I fear the former vice president so much. I just hope he doesn't shoot me in my *&^damn frickin face!”
OK. So I took a tiny bit of liberty with her response. What could be worse for Hutchinson than an endorsement from Darth Vader who won't keep his damn mouth shut like every other former vice president does? Instead Cheney has become a camera whore looking for every opportunity to tell Obama how he is screwing up his war in Afhganistan and Iraq.

Brown not buying votes

It is ridiculous to think that Peter Brown is buying votes from the Black community. Not only is it hard to come up with a price for a vote, it is extremely illegal. EXTREMELY, I tell you! It just isn't happening. But something else is.

According to Rick Casey of the Houston Chronicle, Peter Brown has spent $3.2 million of his wife's money to become Mayor of Houston. With $3.2 Million Brown can flood the airwaves with TV commercials and mailers that contain false or extremely misleading information and his opponents would not have the time or money to counter the flood. There ought to be a law.

Bill White and John Sharp: Reaching out to Different Grassroots

Many of you should know about the now infamous steak dinner with John Sharp that was attended by a handful of progressive Texas bloggers.  The dinner, more than anything else, was an effort by John Sharp to represent an important grassroots constituency: a group of bloggers that, when motivated enough, can force an opinion to trickle down to other Texas Democratic activists.  It was these Texas bloggers, more than most others, who enticed a well credentialed Rick Noriega to run for the United States Senate, and helped push him to winning the nomination without a runoff -- an occurrence that had not been seen for decades.

A Case for Van de Putte for Governor

(Fair disclosure: I am a partisan hack, precinct chair, yellowdog and all-around liberal tool from Bastrop County...)

Que es esto? Phillip's recent post floating Sen. Leticia Van de Putte as a gubernatorial possibility made me pause in uffish thought for awhile today.   While I'd pondered her as a statewide before, it never really occurred to me to put her at the top of the list, but the post made me dig a little deeper and do some cipherin' (as my grandfather used to say).

My first thought was, damn that's a great media piece in the SA Current to start things off. Somebody in her camp has their act together - all the way down to the photos, which make her look tall and commanding and serious (as opposed to short and matronly), without sacrificing her femininity.
