McCaul defeats former TV judge

Voters of the 10th Congressional District delivered a little "Texas Justice" of their own, electing U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) to a third term. With nearly 100 percent of precincts reporting, McCaul received 54 percent of the vote, according to the Secretary of State. Democrat Larry Joe Doherty, a former Houston trial lawyer and TV court judge, won 43 percent.

Doherty concedes: 'Gerrymander,' lack of money reasons for loss

AUSTIN - Democrat Larry Joe Doherty conceded late Tuesday night in his 10th Congressional race against U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin). District 10 spans from Travis to Harris counties, and Doherty said the district was intentionally drawn to make it difficult for a Democrat to win.

McCaul sets off last-minute GOP alarms

WASHINGTON - House Republicans are expressing last-minute concern over the re-election bid of U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin), who finds himself in a surprisingly difficult fight against television personality Larry Joe Doherty.

Earlier this week, McCaul, a second term congressman from Austin, sent out a fundraising appeal to fellow Republican members that one House aide described as "urgent" in tone. In the last several days alone, McCaul has received $20,000 in checks from members.

Split decision: Chronicle Endorses McCaul, Skelly

The Houston Chronicle endorsed a Republican and a Democrat in two of the state's more closely watched Congressional races. In the 10th Congressional District, the newspaper backed U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) over Democratic challenger Larry Joe Doherty. In the 7th Congressional District, it backed Democrat Michael Skelly over U.S. Rep. John Culberson (R-Houston).

McCaul's "Real" Larry Joe site mocks opponent, stirs progressive blogger

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) recently launched a campaign website called "The Real Larry Joe" that criticizes his Democratic challenger, Larry Joe Doherty. The website says Doherty supports gay marriage and "Hillarycare" and that he made racially insensitive remarks as a courtroom judge on "Texas Justice."
