Power Watch: Electricity rates for Oct 2009

Not much of a change from last month. The lowest 12 month plan is Southwest Power and Light at 10.5 cents per kWh. The highest is 15.1 for a 24 month contract by Liberty Power. TXU is at 14.3 and Reliant is at 12.9.

On a month to month basis Southwest Power and Light has the lowest rates at 9.5. And Reliant has the highest rates at 13.9. (Ever wonder why one of the largest energy providers always have some of the the highest rates?)

For comparison, the City of Houston has a 5 year contract which expires in 2013 with Reliant at a rate of 9 cents. Power Watch: Elecricity rates for Sept 2009

Rates for September in the Houston area are not much different than last month but continue to be over 25% higher than pre-deregulation. There is an interesting article about how the price has dropped from last year due to the reduction in demand. More on that in another post. For comparison, the City of Houston has a 5 year contract which expires in 2013 with Reliant at a rate of 9 cents.

Power Watch: Electricity rates for August 2009

Rates are lower than they were a year ago, but deregulation is still not working, it is still a scam. From August 2008:
Reliant Energy, the Goliath of David and Goliath in energy providers, is leading the pack this month with a variable rate of 23.5 cents per kWh for electricity while the little known David, YEP, is offering a rate of 13.8 cents. Doesn't seem to make cents, does it?

On the fixed rate scale for August, First Choice Power is charging 21.7 cents for a 12 month contract, while Stream Energy is charging 13.7 cents for a 6 month contract.
YEP is offering the lowest month to month rate at 10.

Power Watch: Electricity rates for July 2009

Is electricity deregulation finally working? NO! But rates are significantly lower this month than it was one year ago.

The lowest rate for a 12 month contract is by Amigo Energy at 10.7. (might want to check out their reputation) The highest rate is 14.6 by First Choice (ditto). Reliant is at 14.0 and TXU is at 13.5. Last year the rates were much higher:
Consumers can lock into to a relatively "low" rate for an extended term, avoiding any fluctuation in profits. Topping the charts for the highest fixed rates is First Choice Power at 22.8 cents for 12 months, and US Energy Savings Corp has the lowest fixed rate at 16.

Get ready to sweat because electricity rates are beginning to climb. The highest rates for electricity is by Liberty Power at 14.9 cents per kWh for 24 months of service. Reliant Energy is right behind at 14.1 for 12 months. TSU is at 13.7 for a 24 month contract and 13.5 for a 12 month. Reliant and TXU are 30% higher than their competitors and almost 75% higher than pre-deregulation rates.

U.S. Energy Savings Corp. is offering a rate of 12.5 for a 5 year contract.

Power Watch: Electricity rates for April 2009

Electricity rates seemed to have bottomed out and should begin rising, based upon last years information. Last year rates took a big jump in May.
Gexa Energy advertised a 9.9 cent per kWh rate last month is now at 12.5. Amigo was at 9.9 two months ago, but is now higher than Reliant at 14.8.
Reliant Energy has the second highest rate at 15.6 cents per kWh for a 12 month contract. Kinetic and StarTex, have the lowest at 10.8 for a 12 month contract. Dynowatt has a rate of 10.8 but it is for a 16 month contract, a gimmick that will lock you into a very high rate when you resign at the end of your contract.
