Hodes played role in Waxman vote

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) played an important behind the scenes role in the ascension of U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Cali.) to become the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce committee.

Hodes served as a member of Waxman's whip team in a caucus vote that pitted Waxman against committee chairman U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.). House Democrats voted 137-122 to give the chairmanship to Waxman instead of to Dingell, who has been the leading Democrat on the committee since 1981.

Napolitano, not Reyes, to head Homeland Security

U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes has not been selected to be the next secretary of Homeland Security. Politico reports that Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has been selected to head the agency. Although Reyes was not considered a marquee contender, his name had emerged in some news reports. The El Paso Democrat heads the House Intelligence committee.

Reyes spokesman Vince Perez told PolitickerTX.com Reyes had not been approached by anyone connected to the incoming administration about the post.  He added Reyes may issue a statement about Napolitano's selection when she officially accepts the appointment offer.

Despite losing first LD 6 lawsuit, GOP pushes forward with another

A judge turned down the House Republican Organizational Committee’s lawsuit yesterday seeking a restraining order on the counting of ballots in the 6th Legislative District race, but that will not deter them from going forward with their lawsuit to revisit the original ballots that were made into duplicates.

House Minority Leader Richard DeBolt (R-Chehalis) said that, because less than one percent of the more than 7,000 duplicate ballots would need to be incorrect in order to overturn John Driscoll’s 63 vote lead over Rep. John Ahern, the possible discrepancies need to be explored.

"I've always been an advocate of open government," DeBolt told PolitickerWA.com. "The last thing we need to do is have people not trust our election system."
