GOP chair sounds off on Pollina

If Republicans are worried about an Anthony Pollina gubernatorial bid, they aren’t showing it.

“Anthony represents a pretty far left view and if he wants in the race, we welcome the challenge,” said Vermont Republican Party Chairman Rob Roper.

Pollina, who ran a losing campaign for governor in 2000 on the Progressive Party ticket against Democrat Howard Dean and Republican Ruth Dwyer, is a Middlesex community organizer and radio host.

“Pollina is far out of the mainstream,” Roper said. “He puts forward a view that’s out of step with reality.”

Roper said that in a Pollina-Douglas race, Republicans would “show” voters Pollina’s positions on key issues, and would describe what a Pollina governorship would “mean for their lives.”

Republican Jim Douglas, 56, is running to serve his fourth term as Governor. He first won election to the seat in 2002, when he defeated Democrat Doug Racine 45% to 42%.

“Jim Douglas has earned the trust of the people of Vermont,” Roper said. “And if you put that up next to Pollina, the choice will be clear.”
