Douglas leads with fundraising

Republican Gov. Jim Douglas (R-Middlebury) who is running for re-election, is outpacing his Democratic and Independent opponents in fundraising according to the most recent campaign finance reports.

The Associated Press reports that Douglas raised nearly $90,000 during the last month while Democrat Gaye Symington (D-Jericho) raised about $62,000.

Independent Anthony Pollina raised $10,000 in the last month and has less than $10,000 in the bank.

Pollina’s campaign is sorting out legal matters with the Attorney General’s office, which launched an investigation last week about the limits of the campaign contributions he has received. Pollina initially started his bid for governor as a Progressive but switched to an Independent last month, a move which changed the limits on the amount of money he was legally allowed to collect from individual donors.
