Douglas launches "First 100 Days" economic tour

Roosevelt, who helped guide the nation through its most dire economic crisis, Gov. Jim Doulgas (R-Middlebury) began his "First 100 Days" tour of Vermont today.

The governor's campaign said Douglas will conduct a three-week tour of the state's 14 counties, promoting the passage of his economic stimulus plan within the first 100 days of the legislative session, assuming that Vermonters re-elect Douglas.

"Our state is feeling the effects of the national economic crisis, Vermonters are concerned about our economic security and families are struggling to make ends meet," Douglas said in a statement. "There is no more important issue for our state than taking action to strengthen our economy and create more jobs." Douglas also advocated bipartisan efforts to boost the Green Mountain State's economy.

The "First 100 Days" slogan was first made famous by FDR in the midst of the Great Depression. In addition to his recently proposed economic stimulus package, Douglas also mentioned that he would like to make the sales tax holiday a "more regular event."

"I look forward to spending the next 21 days in every corner of our state, talking with Vermonters about my plan to get our economy moving again," said Douglas.
