Douglas wins re-election

Incumbent Gov. Jim Douglas (R-Middlebury) has won his fourth election for Vermont's top office, according to WCAX reports.

With about 74 percent of precincts reporting, Douglas managed to receive over 55 percent of the vote, more than doubling his two closest contenders House Speaker Gaye Symington (D-Jericho) and Independent candidate Anthony Pollina.

Symington conceded earlier this evening. When she conceded, exit polls showed she was in third place, but new data reveals she now holds a close second place spot ahead of Pollina.

Pollina conceded shortly before 11 p.m. PolitickerVT.com spoke with Pollina's campaign manager Meg Brook about the past several months along the campaign trail. She said she appreciated the outpouring of support from hardworking volunteers and felt "exquisite" about the campaign she helped run. "We did exactly what we said we were going to do," said Brook. She also noted that she was looking forward to spending some time with her family.

The Douglas campaign could not immediately respond for comment.
