Symington announces new economic package

In the wake of rising unemployment and a shrinking national economy, gubernatorial candidate and House Speaker Gaye Symington unveiled Thursday her comprehensive economic plan that would shape and boost Vermont's economy.  

Symington's "21st Century Initiative" multi-program package focuses on technology, agriculture, and clean energy, as well as workforce development in order to improve the Green Mountain State's economic health.

Unemployment hits 15 year high in Vermont

Vermont's unemployment rate jumped to a fifteen-year high in September, according to an announcement by the Department of Labor on Tuesday.

The jobless rate in the Green Mountain State rose to 5.2 percent in September, spiking three tenths of a percent from August's 4.9 percent rate. Though still below the national average, the unemployment rate in Vermont has not been this high since June, 1993.

Douglas launches "First 100 Days" economic tour

Roosevelt, who helped guide the nation through its most dire economic crisis, Gov. Jim Doulgas (R-Middlebury) began his "First 100 Days" tour of Vermont today.

The governor's campaign said Douglas will conduct a three-week tour of the state's 14 counties, promoting the passage of his economic stimulus plan within the first 100 days of the legislative session, assuming that Vermonters re-elect Douglas.
