The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee went on the air this weekend with an ad on behalf of 8th District congressional candidate Darcy Burner.
The ad, called "Wrong for the Job", suggests Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) should not be in Congress because he voted with Bush's party leadership 88 percent of the time in his first year in office, 2005, and says he "rubber stamps" Bush's economic policies.
Reichert has been an outspoken supporter of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, but recently broke with the president on the Wall Street bailout.
His campaign responded to the ad with a memo and a video explaining their disputes with the ad's facts and premise, notably saying that Congressional Quarterly has reported that he has only agreed with Bush 49 percent of the time.
"Today the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) released their first negative attack ad, carrying Darcy Burner's water and picking up where their perpetual candidate for Congress left off with her own distorted attacks on Dave Reichert's record and votes in Congress," the memo states. "The television ad, aired this morning on KOMO, attempts to use the same tired, false "Bush-Rubber-Stamp" attack line that did not work in 2006 - a year Burner lost the race for the Eighth district despite a strong Democrat wave across the rest of the nation."
