Reichert on bailout bill: White House 'tried to shove a bill down our throats'

[img_assist|nid=2269|title=U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=175|height=214]WASHINGTON – The Bush Administration’s handling of the $700 billion bailout package played no small part in the bill’s demise in the House floor today, U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert said in an interview.

“Each incumbent has to do what they think is right and I just happened to feel that the administration tried to shove a bill down our throats and we weren’t happy with that,” said Reichert, who voted no on the package.

Will new 'soft money' groups replace cash-strapped NRCC?

WASHINGTON -- When Arizonans opened the pages of the Arizona Republic on Veterans Day in November, there was a good chance they saw a full page advertisement taking aim at Democratic U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell for his vote in support of a bill that included a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. The advertisement featured a letter from injured Iraq veteran Andrew Robinson, pictured seated in a wheelchair.

"…Sadly, some in Congress seem more interested in playing politics than achieving victory," it read.

Burner hits Los Angeles

Democrat Darcy Burner is running for U.S. Congress in Washington State, but she is headed to Los Angeles for a fundraiser.

Burner is scheduled to appear at an April 9 small dollar event. Attendees are being asked to contribute in the amounts of $25 or $100.

UPDATE 2: Burner, addressing activists in DC, offers up a plan for Iraq

WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic congressional candidates Donna Edwards, Jared Polis, Darcy Burner, Chellie Pingree, Sam Bennett, and Tom Perriello gathered in Washington, DC Monday evening to unveil a diplomacy-focused plan for bringing the Iraq war to a close.

The event coincides with the heavily progressive Take Back America conference which is being held here this week. The unveiling of the plan, though paid for by the candidates and not officially part of the conference, was clearly geared to the activist crowd gathered here.
