U.S. House passes final version of stimulus plan without a single Republican vote

The United States House just voted 246-183 to pass the final version of H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Not surprisingly, the legislation was again opposed by the entire House Republican caucus.

So, Dave Reichert, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Doc Hastings, Greg Walden, Mike Simpson, Dong Young, Denny Rehberg ... we'd love to hear your answer to this question: Why do you hate America?

To be fair, there are seven Democrats who also apparently don't care if our nation's economy falls off a cliff and smashes into smithereens. Among those seven are Idaho's Walt Minnick, who deserves the same scorn as the Republicans.

Democrats in U.S. House pass American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Earlier today, by a vote of 244-188, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - the massive economic stimulus package that President Barack Obama has requested from Congress.

All votes in favor were cast by Democrats, with every Republican voting no. The Republicans were joined by eleven conservative Bush Dog Democrats, including Idaho's Walt Minnick.

Republicans have supplied various phony excuses for voting against the rescue legislation, from "there's not enough tax cuts" to "the Democrats drafted this bill and didn't seek our input."

When Republicans were in the majority, they didn't think twice about excluding Democrats when putting legislation together.

Although the money given in his name to charities including the National Guard Youth Foundation, whose local academy Dicks helped start, totaled $478,000 just this year.

The flawed McMorris Rodgers rumor

There has been a rumor flying around Eastern Washington ever since the summer that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Spokane) is planning to resign from her seat midway through her term and have Spokane County Commissioner Todd Mielke take over for her in Washington, D.C.

WA delegation splits against successful new bailout bill, 5-4

Washington state's U.S. House delegation once again split down the middle the Economic Stabilization Act, better known as the revised bailout bill.

The state's nine Representatives split their votes 5-4 just as they had done earlier in the week. This time, however, they voted mostly "no", despite the revised bill's passage in the House, 263-171.  All three Republicans voted against the bill, joined by two of the state's six Democats.

[img_assist|nid=733|title=Rick Bart (R-Arlington)|desc=Politicker photo|link=none|align=left|width=152|height=200]A number of Washington's congressional challengers have, in lieu of being able to vote, issued their own statements on Monday's failed bailout. Ironically, the only instance in which challenger and incumbent agreed was in the deadlocked 8th District, where Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) and Rep. Dave Reichert both opposed the bill.
