Unregulated markets lead to greed, greed leads to carelessness, carelessness leads to collapse

Newspapers are running big headlines on their websites this afternoon about the precipitous drop of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which has fallen below 7,000 points for the first time since 1997.

The breathless coverage of investor angst on Wall Street ceased to be fascinating to us a long time ago. Every week, it's the same story: Some big company is laying off a lot of people, going out of business, or reporting a huge drop in earnings, while profits have vanished and many large financial firms continue to bleed money.

Time Magazine is overrated

Perhaps in an effort to save money and establish prestige, editors of newsweeklies like Time Magazine have begun to increasingly and incessantly publish irrelevant lists of anything and everything they can think of.

This week Time has produced its latest ranking, the "Best Blogs of 2009", which is accompanied by a second worthless list - the Most Overrated Blogs. Among them:
Markos Moulitsas — alias "Kos" — created Daily Kos in 2002, a time he describes as "dark days when an oppressive and war-crazed administration suppressed all dissent as unpatriotic and treasonous." Be careful what you wish for. With the Bush years now just a memory, Kos's blog has lost its mission, and its increasingly rudderless posts read like talking points from the Democratic National Committee.

Netroots come out in force for Burner in wake of house fire

Losing a home to fire takes a toll on nearly every aspect of one's life. When a high profile campaign for the U.S. House is part of that life, the price gets distributed on to thousands more people, whether they are active campaign volunteers, or merely constituents who passively miss out on normal campaigning. Gregoire takes BIAW bashing act to Kos, predicts widespread GOP 527 spending

Governor Chris Gregoire, who held a press conference on June 18 on the subject of negative 527 ads leveled against her by the Dino Rossi-backing BIAW, has taken her battle to a national crowd. Gregoire wrote a blog post on the left-leaning blog Daily Kos today to sound a warning to Democrats across the country.
