Larsen keen on CD2 races

Larsen led the four candidate field with just under 55 percent of the vote, leading his general election opponent Rick Bart (R-Arlington) by seventeen points. Two other Democratic challengers, Doug Schaffer and Glen S. Johnson, received five and three percent of the vote, respectively.

Larsen taking care of business amid convention

DENVER - Here in Denver, the Democrats have been busy. Not just schmoozing, voting and listening to speeches, either. U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Arlington) has been using some of the time to get ready to go back to Congress.

Not that speeches and votes aren't important.

"I called home immediately to my mom in Arlington, WA and asked what she was thinking," Larsen said after Obama was officially nominated Wednesday, "and she said this is going to be the best team and the best ticket ever, so there is a lot of excitement out there.

Kansas Lt. Gov. reprises star turn

DENVER - The speaker that arguably received the best audience reaction at the State Democratic Party Convention was a little-known elected official from a state far away from and with very little in common with Washington.

His name was Mark Parkinson, the lieutenant governor of Kansas, and he wowed the crowd last June with his story of turning from a ranking Republican state legislator into the Democratic right hand man to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.  But it wasn't the changes that he went through, Parkinson said, it was the changes the Republican Party went through.

Gregoire cashes rain check on delegation speech

DENVER - When Democratic delegates gathered Wednesday afternoon to cast their votes to nominate Sen. Barack Obama for president, his primary rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton called for a motion to suspend the rules so that Obama could be nominated with a unanimous voice vote. For those trying display a show of party unity, the motion couldn't have been better.

Gregoire, Dicks cap off the week

DENVER - Today is the final day of the Democratic Nation Convention here in Denver, and the Washington State Democrats are saving their best for last. Gov. Chris Gregoire is addressing the delegation this morning, and as a results they have added a few extra tables to the banquet room to allow for a full house so the din of the crowd is a little bit louder than usual.
