Remember to vote for Sherril Huff

Starting today, we're going to post daily reminders about next Tuesday's special election to pick a Director of Elections for King County.

The number of absentee ballots that has the county has received from voters so far is abysmally low. It is estimated that ninety percent of voters who received ballots in the mail have neglected to return their ballots.

This election is incredibly important. The stakes are high: Will we have a skilled professional at the helm of King County Elections through the end of 2011, or an unqualified and potentially deeply partisan individual in charge?

The NPI Advocate has endorsed Sherril Huff because she is by far the best candidate for the job.

After SoS loss, newcomer Osgood hopes to keep elections agenda alive

Jason Osgood (D-Seattle) got his start in politics on a big stage when he ran unsuccessfully for secretary of state this year.

Prior to 2008 he had been active in his legislative district and co-founded the watchdog group Washington Citizens for Fair Elections, but Osgood had never run for political office.

Still, failing to unseat Secretary of State Sam Reed has not deterred Osgood from staying active in politics. Instead he hopes to push forward with his agenda of a more open elections system.

Dem Osgood to run for Sec. of State

The Seattle Times' David Postman is reporting that Jason Osgood, a 40 year old computer programmer and prominent blogger from Seattle, will file as a Democrat for Secretary of State. Osgood, who has never run for office before, gained some press last year when he helped stop King County from spending a third of a million dollars on an ill-conceived ballot tracking program.
