Speculation begins for local appointees in Obama administration

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi never let a stump speech go by without reminding the audience that, as governor, he would be able to appoint hundreds of new state officials from the “blueberry commission on up.”

That didn’t happen, but on the federal level Democratic President-elect Barack Obama, taking over after eight years of Republican George Bush, will have the authority to appoint thousands of officials to government jobs, including a number of high profile posts here in Washington state.

Politico: Insiders say Inslee could be tabbed for Obama administration

A report on Politico.com today features an extensive list of potential Obama administration appointees from the mouths of Obama insiders.

The only Washington politician to show up on it was Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island), who was pegged as a potential secretary of the interior along with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the environmental lawyer and son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.

Inslee praises state's environmental leaders

SEATTLE - U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) kicked things off at today's fundraiser luncheon featuring former Vice President Al Gore on behalf of Gov. Chris Gregoire by imploring voters to make it so that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Dino Rossi are all "swept into the ashcan of history."

He went on to praise Gregiore for her "financial acumen" and praised Washington's current status of carrying a budget surplus, and said she was among the boldest and most visionary leaders in the nation on the issue of climate change.

WA delegation splits against successful new bailout bill, 5-4

Washington state's U.S. House delegation once again split down the middle the Economic Stabilization Act, better known as the revised bailout bill.

The state's nine Representatives split their votes 5-4 just as they had done earlier in the week. This time, however, they voted mostly "no", despite the revised bill's passage in the House, 263-171.  All three Republicans voted against the bill, joined by two of the state's six Democats.

WA delegation split on failed bailout bill

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted against the Wall Street bailout bill this morning by a count of 228-205. The split was bipartisan, with 133 Republicans and 95 Democrats joining forces to block the $700 billion supplement to the financial industry.

The Washington delegation was likewise split, though slightly more partisan with five of the six Democrats voting in favor of the bill, save for Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) who joined all three Republicans for the "no" vote.

Inslee believes Gregoire can ride green wave this fall

DENVER - Green energy is a big deal in Washington politics, and one of its loudest cheerleaders is U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island), who even co-wrote a book on the subject, Apollo's Fire, late last year.

Inslee told PolitickerWA.com yesterday that he felt that the push for green energy, and the resulting shifts in the economy that would result from the actualization of a major shift, would help Chris Gregoire in her bid for re-election.

Inslee fired up about Democrats, energy

DENVER -- Jay Inslee hit the ground running with a full head of steam.

"Boy is this a good time to be a Washington Democrat," U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee said when he took the stage at the Washington state delegation breakfast this morning. "I have never been so optimistic, I have never been so engaged, I have never been so motivated."

He pointed to George Bush's mishandling of Katrina, and Sen. John McCain refusing to vote on a deadlocked energy bill earlier this session as the reason for his fervor.
