Carlyle will be the 36th's newest legislator

SEATTLE -- Reuven Carlyle (D-Seattle) will be the next state representative from the 36th Legislative District, stepping into outgoing Rep. Helen Sommers' legendary seat in that district's position 1.

His opponent, fellow Democrat John Burbank, called Carlye earlier today to offer his congratulations.

Early speculation on House appropriations leaderhip

One of the most competitive and heated races in the state is in Seattle's 36th Legislative District where two Democrats, Reuven Carlyle and John Burbank, are vying for the seat being vacated by long-serving Rep. Helen Sommers.

But the drama does not end when one of those two is elected this November. There is also the matter of who fills in for Sommers in the House Democratic leadership. Sommers, after all, was the chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

Internal poll shows Burbank ahead in LD36

An internal poll paid for by John Burbank's (D-Seattle) campaign for state House, position 1 in the 36th Legislative District shows him leading fellow Democrat Reuven Carlyle three weeks ahead of the November 4 election.

The poll Burbank commissioned shows  him with a 29-21 lead over Carlyle, with 50 percent undecided.

Kohl-Welles endorses Carlyle

Two days after primary, a few races remain in doubt

LD 36 debate preview

The three candidates running to replace the retiring Democratic Rep. Helen Sommers in Seattle's 36th Legislative District, Republican Leslie Bloss and Democrats John Burbank and Reuven Carlyle, will meet tonight at 7 P.M. at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard for a debate sponsored by the Municipal League Foundation.
