U.S. Senate passes final version of stimulus plan, sending it to President Obama's desk

All the votes are finally in... the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is heading out of the Capitol and to President Obama's desk for his signature.

Sixty senators voted "aye", thirty eight (all Republicans) voted "nay".

Senator Ted Kennedy, who is undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumor in Florida, was not present. Neither was Al Franken, who has not yet been sworn in as the junior senator from Minnesota.

Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who had returned home to be with family following the death of his mother, had to fly back to the District of Columbia to provide Vote Number Sixty.

Beware the bogeyman

Sarah Palin just doesn't get it.

In recent media appearances, she's still setting up strawmen and blaming anonymous bloggers for the failures of the McCain/Palin campaign.
Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is still mad at media coverage of her candidacy, particularly "anonymous, pathetic bloggers" who she says spread falsehoods about her.
The truth is, this isn't about bloggers. Nothing a blogger wrote doomed the McCain/Palin candidacy. They did it themselves. Our candidate offered hope, they offered fear. While Barack Obama brought forward change, they offered the status quo or even antiquated policies. They brought the lies, distortions and bigotry. Obama brought the truth.

Obama the projected winner in Washington

Barack Obama is the projected winner of Washington's 11 electoral votes, according to the television networks.

With no precincts reporting, the Democrat was far enough ahead of John McCain in the exit polls for the networks to call the race right as the voting period ended.

Despite McCain losses, GOP remains hopeful with Rossi

BELLEVUE -- As Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) piles up wins on the bigscreen tv outside of the Republican rally in a ballroom at the Bellevue Hyatt, state Republicans aren't ecstatic, but their faith in local races is keeping their heads at an even keel.

Folks are starting to show up rapidly now that polls have closed, and though they stare blankly at the television as it shows celebrations by Obama supporters, their mood brightens when they step into the ballroom.

New Washington Poll shows Republicans closing gap

The latest edition of the Washington Poll, coming on the heels of an October 27 survey by the same group, shows Republicans Dino Rossi and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) closing the gap in the gubernatorial and presidential races in Washington state, respectively, but still trailing their Democratic opponents, Gov. Chris Gregoire and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

Politico: Boeing keeping McCain at arm's length in Washington

Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is facing a political headwind from the breath of Boeing here in Washington state, according to a report from Politico.com's Jeanne Cummings.

She cites the relative success of Dino Rossi (R-Sammamish) in his race to unseat Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire, and Rep. Dave Reichert's (R-Auburn) ability to keep his race a tossup in the 8th Congressional District.
