President Obama holds first primetime news conference at the White House

A few minutes ago, Barack Obama wrapped up his first primetime press conference as President in the East Room of the White House.

The President began by speaking for a few minutes about his trip today to Elkhart, Indiana (where he held an economic security town hall) and then about the status of the stimulus package that is before Congress.

(The Senate voted to end debate earlier today, 61-36, and move to a vote on final passage. Absent from the Senate was one John Cornyn, who was in New York speaking at a right wing media and business conclave called the Monday Meeting).

GOPAC has high hopes for Washington

MINNEAPOLIS - The GOPAC is trying to build the Republican farm team, and executive director David Avella says Washington state is doing a fine job with the seeding process. Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who chairs the political action committee, was supposed to appear at yesterday's lunch at Rossi's Steakhouse in Minneapolis, but a schedule change at the last minute had him replaced with the group's executive director David Avella.

MINNEAPOLIS - Dino Rossi is back in Washington state all week, so the Republican delegation is going to have to settle for the other Rossi. No, not Carlo, the delegates and staff will be heading to a restaurant called Rossi's Steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis this afternoon for an early dinner before the convention kicks off this evening in St. Paul, Minn.
