John Ladenburg has competition for EPA Region X job

According to the Post Intelligencer, former Washington Utilities and Transportation chairman Mark Sidran, a former Seattle prosecutor, has joined the field.

And so has state Sen. Phil Rockefeller, D-Bainbridge Island.

Since leaving his job as Pierce County executive, John Ladenburg has hung his shingle out at his sons' law firm in Tacoma. He's "of counsel." He told me last week he's also doing some consulting work for Cascadia developer Patrick Kuo.

The P.I. points out that U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, will have a big say in who President Obama nominates for the Environmental Protection Agency job in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, etc. Dicks over sees the EPA budget.

My money's still on Ladenburg. He and Dicks go way back.

Here is the post by Joel Connelly at the P.I.

Dicks among beneficiaries of suspect lobbyist firm

FROM LES BLUMENTHAL IN D.C.:

Roll Call is reporting this morning that a defense lobbying firm, whose Virginia offices were searched last year, and its employees have contributed $59,500 to Washington Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks since 2002.

The firm, PMA Group, has ties to Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., who chairs the House defense appropriations subcommittee. Dicks is the third ranking Democrat on the subcommittee and has a close working relationship with the chairman.

Roll Call said there are no indications Murtha, Dicks or any other members of the subcommittee are targets of the federal probe.

George Behan, a Dicks' spokesman, said his boss has not been interviewed by the FBI or Justice Department investigators.

WASHINGTON - With the vote just hours away, Rep. Norm Dicks just called to talk about the $825 billion stimulus bill and what it will mean for school districts in Pierce County and the South Sound.

According to Dicks, the bill would provide $28.6 million to the Tacoma district for construction and other programs, $12 million for Federal Way, $11.7 million for Clover Park and $7.1 million for Puyallup.

Even the smaller districts will receive funding the congressman called "nothing to sneeze at." University Place will receive $1.

WA delegation split on failed bailout bill

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted against the Wall Street bailout bill this morning by a count of 228-205. The split was bipartisan, with 133 Republicans and 95 Democrats joining forces to block the $700 billion supplement to the financial industry.

The Washington delegation was likewise split, though slightly more partisan with five of the six Democrats voting in favor of the bill, save for Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) who joined all three Republicans for the "no" vote.
