Pollster Elway says gubernatorial election was never close

Local pollster Stuart Elway, who drew the ire of many a conservative this cycle for his polls that consistently showed Gov. Chris Gregoire further ahead of Dino Rossi than anyone else.

In an op-ed piece today on Crosscut.com, Elway explains why he believes that Rossi never really had a chance.

He says that for Rossi's strengths, issues like budget restraint and change, there just wasn't a large enough voting bloc to elect him.

Gregoire up six in final pre-election poll

Gov. Chris Gregoire leads her Republican challenger, Dino Rossi, by six points, 52-46, in the final SurveyUSA poll before Tuesday's election.

The last four polls have all shown two point leads for Gregoire. 

But better news for Gregoire is that she leads by eight among those who have already voted, SurveyUSA found, and that those promising to vote by Tuesday were split evenly between the candidates. She also led heavily among women, and is tied with Rossi among men.

Support for initiatives fading in latest Washington Poll

The final Washington Poll from Saturday, November 1 showed a mixed bag of support for the state's major initiatives, even as all four of those surveyed displayed a negative trend from the group's October 27 undertaking.

I-1000 and I-1029 continue to have significant support, but I-985 and Sound Transit's Proposition 1 have faltered in the last week.

Internal poll shows 4th CD unexpectedly close

An internal poll paid for by the George Fearing (D-Richland) campaign shows an unexpectedly close race in Central Washington's 4th Congressional District.

The poll showed Fearing trailing Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Pasco) by five points, 52.5 percent to 47.5 percent.  Undecided was not an option in the question.

403 likely voters were randomly dialed in the poll, done by the Bainbridge Media Group, and it carries a margin of error of +/- 6.8 percent.

UPDATED: Poll shows tight races for OSPI, lands commissioner

A recent poll from SurveyUSA shows close margins in the statewide races for superintendent of public instruction and commissioner of public lands, but clear leaders on two ballot initiatives and in the race for attorney general.

Incumbent Commissioner of Public Lands Doug Sutherland (R-Tacoma) leads Okanogan Democrat Peter Goldmark 45-43, and challenger Randy Dorn is ahead of incumbent Terry Bergeson 43-38 in the race for superintendent.

Gregoire leads Rossi by 2 in latest poll, by larger margins among those who have already voted

Gov. Chris Gregoire continues to lead Dino Rossi by a small margin, 50-48, in the latest SurveyUSA poll released Tuesday afternoon.

This is the same margin in the governor’s race as the previous SurveyUSA poll. Most notable, though, is the fact that Gregoire led among people who have already voted by a count of 53-46. Half of the people the pollster called said they had already mailed in their ballots.

Washington Poll finds support for every major ballot initiative

The four major ballot initiatives up for a vote this November, I-1000, I-985, I-1029 and Prop. 1, all have positive support according to the latest Washington Poll. 

I-1000, which would legalize assisted suicide based upon the same legal constraints as a similar Oregon law, leads  its opponents 56-38.

Meanwhile I-985, which seeks to reduce traffic congestion by coordinating red lights and opening up HOV lanes, leads narrowly with a 45-43 count among voters statewide.

I-1029, requiring more training for certain health care workers, leads handily, 65-20.

Washington Poll: Gregoire 51, Rossi 45

A new poll from the University of Washington shows Gov. Chris Gregoire with a six point lead over her Republican challenger Dino Rossi, 51-45.

This adds to a positive polling trend for Gregoire after Rossi pulled ahead in September.

Elway poll: Gregoire 51, Rossi 39

Gov. Chris Gregoire has extended her lead over Republican challenger Dino Rossi in the latest Elway Poll released today to twelve points, 51-39. The same poll taken in September showed Gregoire with an eight point lead, 50-42.

Internal poll shows Burbank ahead in LD36

An internal poll paid for by John Burbank's (D-Seattle) campaign for state House, position 1 in the 36th Legislative District shows him leading fellow Democrat Reuven Carlyle three weeks ahead of the November 4 election.

The poll Burbank commissioned shows  him with a 29-21 lead over Carlyle, with 50 percent undecided.
