Former Ross campaign boss Lowe explains how to beat Reichert

Marco Lowe, who managed KIRO radio host Dave Ross’ unsuccessful 2004 bid for Congress against Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn), readdresses the topic of 8th district politics in an article for The Stranger this week.

He mentions the importance of recruiting candidates early so that they may begin identifying voters as soon as possible, and urges candidates to make a better effort in Pierce County, where Reichert has won each of his three races by sizeable margins.

UPDATED: Reichert wins re-election

The Associated Press has called Washington's 8th District race for Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn).

With 79 percent of the vote now counted, Reichert leads Democrat Darcy Burner by just under 8,000 votes, and his lead has consistently grown since trailing on election night. Reichert's lead is now three points, 51.47 percent to 48.53 percent.

Rep. Reichert up less than 2,000 after first King County ballot drop

With the latest batch of ballot results in from King County, one of the state's major races remains too close to call.

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) still leads challenger Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) in the 8th Congressional District, but with thousands more ballots added to the fray he has not been able to increase his meager lead. With 63 percent reporting, Reichert leads by fewer than 2,000 votes out of more than 200,000 cast.

King County will do one more ballot drop tonight, as will Pierce County.

More counted ballots coming in later today could clear up state races

Most of the state's electoral races have already been decided, but some of the state's major races like the Reichert-Burner rematch in the 8th Congressional District are still up in the air. New rounds of vote results released later today could end much of the speculation.

King County will release more results at 3PM and 11:30 PM and Pierce County will release their day's count at 7PM.

Burner camp feeling good about remaining mail-in vote

As Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) extends his slim lead on Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) in Washington’s 8th Congressional District race, Burner’s campaign remains positive.

“We feel pretty good about where things stand currently,” campaign spokesman Sandeep Kaushik told PolitickerWA.com this morning. “There are a lot of votes yet to be counted and we don’t expect we’re going to have any kind of determination in this race for a couple of days, at least.”

According to the latest vote tally, Reichert leads Burner 50.5 to 49.5, or about 1500 votes.

With one night down, 8th District a dead heat

SEATTLE -- As of the latest ballot count, Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) has closed the gap on Darcy Burner (D-Carnation), bringing the margin between the two candidates to less than one point.

In fact, the race is almost a tie. With just under 135,000 ballots counted, Burner leads by a mere 60 votes.

Both campaigns remain confident they will end up on top.

Reichert confident as early returns favor Burner

BELLEVUE -- Although Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) leads among early returns, Dave Reichert's campaign is still confident they will prevail.

"We feel great," Reichert spokesman Amanda Halligan told PolitickerWA.com. "We feel very optimistic, very confident about the work we’ve done and we’re very confident that Dave is going to win."

Reichert has been down in the past few polls, but her opponent's have felt good about voters reactions to the so-called "Harvard Hoax" issue they have been pusing against Burner.

Burner spokesman unavailable on big day

Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) will be without a key staffer today as she seeks Washington's 8th District congressional seat for a second consecutive time.

On a night when Burner's staff has at least a puncher's chance to celebrate their months of hard work with the potential flip of Rep. Dave Reichert's seat, they will have to do so without spokesman Sandeep Kaushik. He had to be taken to the hospital today due to a non-life threatening medical emergency.
